An article in the January 2005 issue of Scootering Magazine has prompted me to launch this rant, so sorry if it offends anyone.
You know when they feature scooters in the magazine, and they ask the owner "What changes could improve the scooter scene"?
I'll tell you what would improve it; the eradication of Vespa/Lambretta snobbery once and for all.
I'm not saying everyone subscribes to it, but if you want to read articles like that in Scootering, or listen to conversations at rallies and clubs, everyone suffers it because there's always plenty of people who won't let it lie.
The sooner everyone realises and accepts that a) Vespas are reliable and solid, but a little bit plain and boring, b) Lambrettas are flashy and attractive, but as reliable as a clingfilm condom, and c) everyone has different taste when it comes to how their scooter looks, then the scootering world will be a better place.
If I want a flyscreen and chrome accessories on my Vespa, because that's what I like, then that's what I'll have. If you want to ride your Lambretta balls out full throttle with the panels off and no mirrors then that's fine too. Horses for courses, diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks. Be happy people.

I believe if everybody who uses the phrase 'a way of life' (when infact the scoot only gets dusted off for weekend runs in the Summer months) was shot , then the scene would be a better place . Bit drastic I know but that phrase really annoys me .

Ah yes sportique, I knew something rang a bell when I looked at your profile and it said your address was "3rd bunker from the left, Reichstrasse, Berlin".
Seriously though, we all like to look down on people from time to time (god knows I smile to myself when I see the comedy mods in Hipshaker) but it's being able to get by without it manifesting itself into prejudice that's important.
Right kids?

I must admit that I ride both types of machine (Lammie / Vespa) and I know where your coming from.
I for one don't give a flying duck what a person rides (as long as it's not a T&G) it's why they do it that counts.
To me It's about two things:
Good Reliable Transport (Yes even the Lammie) Being part of the Craic (As the Irish would put it), belonging.
I would challenge anyone not too stop and stare at a ride-out of Classic sccoters whether they be Vespa or Lambretta.
