So having just rebuilt my motor I tried to fit my new exhaust, a std Sito. The first time I replaced the cat exhaust it was with a Sito and it fitted to perfection. This time same model of exhaust and it's nowhere near a comfortable fit. I've had to loosen the barrel and rotate it a bit and even then the pipe won't push all the way over the exhaust stub. It seems the geometry between the pipe and the bolt bracket is a bit off. What has everybody else done to rectify this problem as I can't think how I can manipulate the pipe so that it's not under tension. It was hard enough to fit on the bench, so it'll be a right ball ache to fit once the engine's in the frame.

there have been reports in some scooter magazines that the sito quality and fit is not what it use to be.

to remedy , heat an bend , easier on the bench than on scooter .as ianmartin says its a constant with aftermarket exhausts needing fettling to fit .H

Henri, are we talking glowing red and where is the best spot? I thought I might get away with just filing the bracket but it needs something more extreme I suspect.

How about sending it back and asking for one that fits? Or if filing the bracket hole doesn't work, getting the bracket rewelded in the correct spot?
Good luck.

Find something to stick inside the exhaust and heat it while applying pressure. Odds are that the supplier of these exhausts know they're a pain to fit, and chances are all of these all have their own "uniqueness" when it comes to fitting. Adjust the exhaust to fit, not the bracket otherwise you'll have the same problem again. Or buy a scorpion exhaust....

I eventually got it to fit, although the pipe wont push fully up to the barrel. It was the same with a genuine Vespa exhaust I had, that was a rubbish fit as well. I don't understand these manufacturers, what's hard about building an accurate jig? Or failing that an old crank case and barrel. Which original style exhaust have you found to fit straight out of the box?

Had to cut the captive nut cage off. Performs brilliantly though

Tell me about it, the std vespa I had was so far out I had to get rid of the captive nut altogether. It ended up being easier to pull the swingarm bolt out on one side to lower the engine a bit and use an ordinary nut on the exhaust bracket.

Drives me crazy, how hard is it to make an exhaust to line up properly.
The ‘genuine’ Piaggio stamped exhausts on eBay I don’t believe are genuine, they have a suspicious welded on down pipe, I presume so they can use same box for 125 and 200 and weld on the appropriate sized down pipe.
I bought one, it didn’t line up till I had gone through a couple of Dremel bits!
SIP next time!
