Cant get barrel to lock in, this is my second barrel, the first one spun round and locked in, had to drill it out, the old barrel was drilled with previous owner, i wonder if the metal tube is maybe damaged, the lock works but im worried it could spin round again.

doulsy, take the black switch and the metal steering lock off from under the horn cover side of the switch and check if the small end tab on the end of the lock is locking against the metal tube on the frame ( would be a lot easier if I could post photos lol), the drilling may have f*cked the tube tho! modern vespa.com/forum/topic80689 may be worth a look, mate. All the best . Jim☺

Think you need to drop forks to remove steering lock

doulsy, sorry to say you do, mate. You could try giving the lock a hefty push from the key side , in the hope the tap on the inside catches the metal tube?

Just stick the ignition in the glovebox, and leave an old one in its place And when someone tries to nick it ,,they bust the ignition and it won't start 👍 Probably more secure

doulsy, didn't mean for you to go that far mate, it was an outside chance the tab would locate if the tube had been part drilled. Try dropping the forks, take the black switch and metal steering lock off and have a look at the end of the welded on tube, it may be fine and just needing the tab from the ignition barrel seated properly. If the tube is minced, you can buy a lock complete with weld on metal tube. I would like to add, if my bad discription of a possable fix has caused you to damage your lock barrel, I would feel guilty enough to offer to pay for a replacement, Bud. All the best. Jim☺

doulsy, the offers still there if you change your mind 😉. I have a mate that had a semi custom px with a multi drilled tube, right where the tab sits, so needed the tube removed and a new one welded on, they couldn't be arsed going that far, so fitted a mk1 PX ignition lock to the top of the glove box ( after removing the EFL type lock and steering lock) and for security the used a Grip lock fitted to the throttle and front brake lever when parked up. So that's another option. All the best. Jim☺
