I noticed I had a bit of rear wheel play a week or so ago, only about 1-2 mm which on searching here & elsewhere seemed about normal for PX's. Today on way to work it felt a bit loose at rear when changing lanes etc, on arrival I inspected it and had about 5mm play!! I removed hub cover, pin & nut cover and found the hub nut tightened 1/3 of a turn which eliminated excess play.
I can't torque it until I'm home tomorrow am but it definitely ain't getting loose from that tonight & wheel spins freely.
Is this a common occurrence? I've done 9,000km on my 2014 PX 125/150 since I got it last July.
All the best,
RWS

Yes it's quite common. As you get a little bit of wear in the hub spline it chatters and loosens the nut. Even A brand new hub won't have the precision for a real snug fit but I find a drop of thread lock will hold it in place along with using the highest torque setting, then it shouldn't go anywhere.

Ta mate, will thread lock it too. Seems much more snug now ✌🏽

You're welcome, it doesn't need much play to make the back end feel iffy does it.

Indeed, that feeling when you change lane and the back end feels like it's still traveling sideways while the front goes straight on!

Was dreading the internal bearings gone and splitting engine. Glad it was a little loose.

Last time mine did that, all that went through my head was the scene from Herbie, where he crossed the line 1st and 3rd!!

Glad you got it sorted in time, but really it should never come loose if its tightened up properly to start with and the cap and pin are correctly located, whoever put the wheel on last time didn't do the job right..

To my knowledge the rear wheel hub has never been removed from when it left factory in 2014 Bryno.
I bought it with 288 miles on the clock before it's first service & all components were spotless & shiny & scratch free securing the hub.
I have removed rear wheel from hub a few times but never the hub itself.
Feels solid as solid can be this week end 3 days commuting plus one on the run which is a result..

That's good to hear. My point is that the hub nut just can't come undone itself if the cap and pin are correctly in place, and its not like a taper wheel bearing on an old car which needs nipping up periodically as the bearing wears, so if its done up ok now, cap and pin in, you don't need to worry about it coming loose again ;-)

And sometimes the hub nut can be fully tightened and scoot still wandering all over the road! It's wonderful having a hub bearing go a week before the mot is due. Good job I've got eff all else to do.😀

Haha, it can't be helped. At least I can use my son's px200 while it's fixed.
