Hi lads got my scoot in at my local shop and the technician says I need a new cdi as it's had a dr180 kit put on with 200 carb sip 2 exhaust. But cdi still standard px125 . Is this correct it needs upgrading as it's £80 for the new cdi . He's ordered a Zeus if I've spelt it correctly.
Cheers .

It's hard to say but I would say it depends on whether you think the std cdi revs high enough for your needs. The rev limit I think is 7000 rpm on the std cdi and as far as I am aware the Zeus just increases your rev limit. If you consider that the DR180 kit is more of a touring mod rather than a screamer you may not get the full benefit from the Zeus It's just a thought, but with the increase in power you might get more benefit from raising your gearing with perhaps an extra tooth on your clutch. The lads will be along with wiser words than me.

If its not the later, restricted model of vespa, then the stock cdi will be just fine with whatever kit you put on it

Yes that's the 7k rev limit model. Is 7k high enough for you based on your riding style. You can always fit a Zeus later.

Isn't it the case that the Zeuss CDI (if you need it for your engine) works with the new-model stator, so you have to either use the Zeuss (or alternative), or change the Stator and CDI to the previous Ducatti CDI and 6-Coil Stator. We've discussed it a couple of times, and I think that's the conclusion.

Yep sime I agree ! I reckon he either gets a zeus cdi fitted (or alternative) as planned or changes his stator and fits a Ducatti cdi (or alternative) . Therefore in my opinion , mont I'd go with the zeus !
Cheers .

The thing with using the Zeuss is the availability and cost of replacement if it goes wrong (£80 each time, not £25), rather than biting the bullet and changing it all back to pre-2012, or whatever the date was. I imagine the flywheel would have to change as well, in which case probably right to go with the Zeuss. Make sure he gives you the old one back as a stand by.

Morning all, picked the scoot up last night after having the zeuss cdi fitted , talk about a different bike ! It goes like a train . He's advised me to run it over to his mates in batley to stick it on the dyno but will sort that next year . Thanks for the advice received on this thread 👍🏻
