2 ways really
1. sit on bike, tuck on foot against base of stand and push bike forward (easy). Cover the rear brake pedal with other foot once the stand kicks over
2. stand to left of bike, grab seat strap, one foot against stand and pull bike forward (motorbike test way). However if you are not too confident you may end up dropping the scoot this way.So adopt the straddling method
Had to check the date as I answered this to check it wasn;t 1st April

When taking it off the stand, if you use the standing to the left of the scooter method, I would recommend the following tips:
1. Hold both handle bars. 2. Turn front wheel slightly to the right. This should prevent the scooter falling away from you when the weight takes it unexpectedly 3. Cover the front break lever (right side handle bar) - as I think this is a 98 ET4, you won't have a foot break pedal as mentioned by Smallframe - and be ready to give it a squeeze if the bike continues to roll when you push it forwards off the stand. 4. Remember to stand close to the scooter, and favour the weight towards your legs, if it falls that way your legs will stop it. If you don't, chances are you'll drop the scooter away from you.
To get it back on the stand:
1. Make sure you're on a level surface, or if on a slope, make sure the front wheel is up the hill. 2. Holding both handle bars and standing on the left side of the scooter, push the stand down with your right foot until it touches the floor. 3. Make sure both sides of the stand are touching the floor by gently moving the scooter side to side. 4. Keeping your foot on the stand, pull the scooter back until the stand pops forward and the scooter rocks onto it.
