I take it then that the person you bought the scooter from could not provide you with a V5 (log book) for it? You can obtain a new V5 by filling in form V62 which you can get online at www.dvla.gov.uk/forms/frms_vehicles.htm or from any Post Office. The completed form and appropriate fee should be sent to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AR. A new document will then be issued to you in about 3 - 4 weeks. You should be able to find out the registration number from the DVLA by providing them with the chassis number. I suggest browsing their site at www.dvla.gov.uk because trying to get through to them on the phone can be a nightmare.

Don't want to sound pessimistic here, but you did check that the scooter wasn't stolen before you bought it didn't you? What was the guy's excuse for not having a V5 for it? I have to say I haven't heard of this Vespa Owner's Club in Swansea. The only organisations I know of are the Veteran Motor Scooters Club (Warrington) and the Veteran Vespa Club (Letchworth), but obviously they just deal with old scooters, not new ones. The only organisation in Swansea I know of that deals with re-registering is the DVLA. Yes, when you get the new reg details, you can go to any dealership that prints number plates and get one made. There are some places online that do it quite cheap - that's how Lucia got hers (with www.vespa.org.uk in little letters along the bottom I might add). I'll find out the website that she used. Don't forget that a number plate in anything other than black on yellow, with characters any other size or typeface than the standard, isn't road legal and will probably earn you a fixed penalty ticket. I think that's the case in Scotlandshire, where the laws are still bizarre and feudal.

As a one make National Scooter club we are the longest running club of its kind in the United Kingdom.
We have members in all corners of the UK, and a wealth of our membership also includes not only the conventional scooter owner of the Vespa PX, PE, T5, etc, but also owners of the new generation of automatic scooters.
It is this broad spectrum that gives the VESPA CLUB the edge in hopefully offering you, the member, the best club service available. Dealer discounts at many scooter dealers throughout the UK, and we encourage dealers to advertise their new products in our pages of 'Vespa News' the magazine of the Vespa Club of Britain.
DVLC service to help you register that older Vespa you have just found, however there are strict government guidelines and a quick call to our DVLC Registrar will give you the advice to help you make the registering of the model in your possession easier and successful. This service is only available to Vespa Club members.

A fantastic sporting calendar with a wealth of different events to suit even the newcomer owner. There are Gymkhana's, Sporting Trials, Grass Track Racing, Scooter Racing, existing members who get together to help newcomers get involved in the sporting side of scootering.
A national scooter championship that covers events from all aspects of the scooter spectrum, as listed above. The championship is sponsored by Malossi UK, one of the highest profile sponsors of the scooter scene. Malossi UK have been sponsors of the Vespa Club for many years an association the Vespa Club is proud of.

One of the previous owners should have registered it off road (SORN) to avoid being prosecuted for having an untaxed vehicle.
Someone at the DVLA will be able to help you. Email them, tell them you've bought a restored scooter without a V5, give them the chassis number and see what they say.

I was given a p2 that was left in an alley way and rang swansea and quoted the frame no. and they ran a stolen vehichle check there and then and confirmed to me it was not a stolen, but they would have to write to the last registered keeper and advise them of my find. Luckily they had moved addresses and i was sent a new V5.

Dating cert, mot, insurance and complete a vehichle registration document completing - never heard of a manufacturers conformity cert (sounds like b*ll*cks) . Lambretta (sorry spence) don't exist as a manufacturer anymore, but you can get a lammy on the road, by following the above principles.
