Ok, pardon my stupidity, but is it the idea that something like this would replace the air box hose? And what benefit would you derive from doing this?

you'd remove the filter from on top of carb an use a foam filter on were hose fits .benefits are debateable ,but idea is to move more air with less turbulence into carb/jets giving a performance boost .like drilling the stock filter but more so . downside is instead of pulling clean/cool/still air from inside frame, drying it an stopping rust formation .your pulling dirty/hot/disturbed air from the engine bay which on rainy days is also damper/more humid from tyre spray . on a tuned motor the upside outweighs the down .H

I'm guessing for my stock engine (drilled air filter), there's little point in doing this as any benefit from foam filter would be negated by removing drilled air filter?
