now that my new scoot seems to be going well, I'm thinking its about time to retire the beloved T5 for a while and try to restore it somewhat for it is badly needing it, mind you it has been a working scoot for a few years now, through the hottest of summers to the harshest of winters, but the seasons have taken there toll on this once glorious machine. I'm talking s#it now, back to the point of the thred... anybody got any tips on how to go about this, where to start, etc ? cheers in advance.

How far do you want to go with it, down to the last nut and bolt or a tidy up?
Full respray needed? Engine rebuild? Are you working with a budget in mind?

ideally i would like to do a full nut and bolt job, but probs end up doing an nut n bolt tidy up, but it depends, i'll see how it goes. does need a respray, engines fine but would like to strip it and give it all a good clean, just get the scoot looking good again kinda new looking. not thought much about the cost, will get xmas out the way first. gonna have to drill the long bolt holding the exhaust on so thats gonna be my starter for ten.

If you do all the strip & prep work yourself, budget £250 - £500 for the paint, few hundred for odds & sods..
You will no doubt need to deal with some rust, floor, mudguard, underside, worth spending some time on this stripping this back to bare metal, kill the rust, etch prime etc.
IIRC the exhaust bolt is threaded in the exhaust itself on the T5, so you cant really drill it out from the front, if you take the bolt head off you still wont be able to drop the exhaust, if really won't unscrew maybe best cutting the bolt at the back of the swing arm with a hacksaw blade.

job has started in earnest , engine is out, etc. there is a lot of rust on the frame, do you think its a good idea to get it pebble(? ) blasted? gonna wait until the better weather comes in before getting really stuck into it tho, its kinda nippy up here this time of year. in saying that patience is not my best virtue. also is it a good idea to underseal my new scoot? if so what do you underseal, everything? stand, springs, etc.

I like to slap a bit of Waxoil on the underside with a brush, keeps the rain off the metal..

On the exhaust front, surely it is a sito and the front bolt is just a captive bolt. Should be easy enough to remove with a hacksaw. New 10mm bolt and job's a goodun. Slap that waxoil on, can't do any harm.

Er, should that be floating nut Skrappey? I think a captive bolt is something you shoot cows in the head with. ;D
Whatever it's called, they're a pain in the arse when the housing doesn't hold the nut still any more. Saw it off and replace it with a nylock nut, because if the nut comes off while you're riding and the long bolt slides out, it can have an interesting effect on your back tyre!
