I bought a P200 this Sunday, it can take a few kicks to start it up. I've rode it and everything seems fine, I went to start it today using the choke and it starts but then dies, I can start it again but the same problem occurs? What do you think it could be?
I was told to pull the clutch in and kick it a few times to get the fuel around (I didn't do that earlier)

I'm not an expert by any means (others on here can testify to that!!), but it may be nothing more than the idle screw that sticks out of the top your carb box needing adjusted. If that doesn't help, take a look at my 'Starting Problems' thread from a while back. Mine was a warm start problem, but there may some tips in there that can help you out. Good luck!

i'm sorry jellerby but if ya pull clutch n kick it kickstart will drop down an not turn engine over . sounds like a fuel blockage , theres not enuff fuel getting through to run ,but between dying an you kicking again carbs getting enough to start .have you tried starting it without choke ,as maybe carbs set up rich n chokes drowning it . whats ya experience of scoots , as theres newbie stuff i dont want to ask in case i offend , like is there fuel in tank?, have ya turned tap on an if its got a reserve have you tried that position too . etc, H

I know it doesn't turn the engine, I was just told the fuel was sent around sorry. I don't really know much about them to tell you truth. I tried it with the choke off and fuel tap on and off. I didn't try reserve though I'll have to try that. Thanks, both of you

I just took it out for 10 minutes and got home and let it idle for a few seconds and it didn't die. When I went to start it today It literally died with a second or two.. Maybe it just needed running again, I was told it hadn't been started for almost 2 years until a friend had it and used it a few times

Does you scoot have a reserve? 3 o clock is off, 9 o clock is on if you have a fuel gauge on your speedo.
If you start it with the choke and it starts but dies, have you tried pushing rhe choke back in?
I think i would first check the carb, taking note of the jets (stamped on the sides of the mets) and compare them to what you hould have.
At the same time give the carb and jets a clean.
Other simple things to try is to check you have a good spark. Take plug out and rest it on a metal part of the motor somewhere and kick it over.

Ah! Maybe the carb just needs cleaning if its been laid up for a couple of years. Residue can build up in the carb and block jets etc. Give the carb a thorough clean, check the float/needle too. Fresh fuel, fresh plug, fresh start?!

If you take the guys' advice re cleaning your carb (and you should, they know their stuff), and you've never done it before, this is the first of 5 videos which are really useful. I'd never did more than change bulbs, cables, spark plugs but I followed these and got the job done.

as vesp says , an another quick check is try it with fuel cap open , if that cures it ,its a partially blocked breather restricting fuel flow . H
