Hi all,,,, Been having a few compression problems lately so I'd thought I would check the gear oil for Fuel!!! WoW!! grey oil and mega stunk of fuel it was.. So I'm guessing it's the main seal f**ked!! How and why would this happen?? as I only replaced the seal less than 6 months ago.... But before you answer I didn't use a proper tool to install the crank, I used the clutch to pull the thing into the bearing so could that be the issue? I hate waiting for anything to be delivered from ebay but maybe it's worth waiting if I buy a crank tool from India !! Cheers guys

which seal was it , as some cant take ethanol in fuel for long . an sometimes seals just blow ,maybe nicked it on assembly ,badly made , lots of reasons . most common one is wear from endfloat/slackness in bearings ,but if memory serves you did the bearings same time as seals an got em from allstyles so should be decent enuff quality . ive never used a crank tool , either driving crank in or using the clutch to pull it in , so dont think thats the cause .sometimes seals n bearings just settle in an fail ,doubt you'll ever get a firm answer to cause .only if it keeps happening will the problem be traceable . a very close examination of seal journal on crank might give you a clue . It might have torn but if you didn't use any loctite on the seal I would guess it has came out of the casing. Sounds like its nothing you did wrong with the assembly (have never used a crank tool either). If when you take it apart, it has fallen out then you will need to loctite in the next one for sure.

Cheers guys,,,, Once I open the engine up I may get a better idea of what the problem is!!!! It's just bloody annoying stripping the engine out and pulling the thing apart!!
Only positive from this is ,, I was gonna pull the engine out in few weeks anyway as I'm doing a full custom paint job this winter (MYSELF) ahhhh......

No No I've had no such dings with anyone or anything H
I just fancy a new look for the scoot,,, the paint has seen better days to be fair, and I've never been a real fan of the metal flake look on the scoot. Panels are looking tired and they have definitely seen the asphalt on both sides (not by me)
I'm very indecisive what look I'm going for but it's gonna be different whatever I choose!!
More than anything its going to be a challenge, doing all the work in my garage using a generator and air compressor (First time spraying) ahhhhhh.......
H your'll be needing to give me some advice on this one fella :-)

1st off ,buy/hire the biggest compressor you can , an hire the genny to run it , or better still buy a "spraymate" system an get enuff extension cables to run to flats opposite ,your mates dad lives there , a spraymates about £125 all in , nearest paint shop i know n trust to pompey is concept paints in chichester .tho brighton auto-paints do postage an are best in country . an practice on a old car door first , you'll never crack it straight out the box .
