Hi folks - sorry if this is in wrong area. I lost all 5 nuts on my rear wheel the other day while riding. It was a brand new wheel hub and I'm wondering if it was dodgy (anyone else had similar problem?) Anyway - what I'm posting about now is getting hold of some replacement hex nuts; SIP don't have any in stock and I'm wondering if anyone knows where else I might be able to buy some. Cheers these are the ones I mean: www.sip-scootershop.com/en/products/nut+hexagonal+for+sip+rim_81050200

you lost all 5 ill say its dodgy you need to get hold of who ever put the nuts on and pull theres off unless it was you and we can all make mistakes and count your self lucky very lucky. they dont have to be sip nuts you replace them with any scooter shop will have a set that will fit i prifer nylocks but use standard chrome nuts with spring washers as i cant find nylocks that match the colour i want

They do need to be the particular ones, they're 1mm smaller. Twisted Rods had some, I got a spare set from there. You are using the Nordlock washers?

It was me that put them on I'm sad to say. I've overtightened in the past so I was perhaps too careful not to do so on this occasion. SIP have advised 20Nm torque so I'll be doing that in future. As it happens, I changed the wheel roadside and put on a split rim with standard nuts and tightened good and proper. Lo and behold, one of the threads on this new hub sheared in two! As you say, I was very lucky. Thanks for suggesting Twisted Rods - I'll give them a go. I was using the recommended nord-lock washers (also from SIP) Out of interest, has anyone using these SIP rims decided to use longer bolts on the hub? The thickness of the SIP tubeless means you only get a few mm of thread to put the nuts on to. I changed to tubeless for safety reasons but now I'm wondering if I should go back to split rims

the stud probably broke from damage from loose rim ,if twisted rods dont have new nuts maybe scooter centre cologne might have , i'm runnin sip rims on my missus's scoot an plannin to swap to them on my own scoot aswell, havent had any problems with them so far ,is the hub a piaggio 1 , as some baja 1's have shorter studs ,tho lml 1's have longer bolts than piaggio, if still worried bout loosening nuts a blob of semi-permanent threadlocker should settle ya mind .an a shot of "gloop" in the tyre will stop it being a hassle removing rim at side off road,as you shouldnt need to til changing tyres . Henri - thanks again. Can you tell me a bit more about the gloop in tyre thing - I'm fairly inexperienced in such matters.
I like the sound of the lml hubs with longer bolts - I'll look into that for sure. Cheers

its a puncture fixing stuff ,an the trade names actually "gloop" , you put it in new tyres an it coats the inside if a puncture occurs it fills the gap an seals the tyre , no blow-outs /sudden flats , its reccomended by most people using tubeless tyres , i'm old-skool/tight meself an dont actually use it ,i rely on experience tellin me sumtings up n pullin over , then its "when chrome wont get ya home,n matt black wont get ya back ,sit back n let the AA take up the slack", but thats on my bikes an i cant remember last flat i got ,my scoots i run on splits an gloop aint any real use on tubes , but them that do run tubeless all reckon gloop as a good insurance policy ,end of day its all between ya skin n tarmac , how much is ya arse-cheeks worth , not sittin down for a month n permanent scars aint funny, ask my brother ,tho me n all his mates thought it was hilarious , H

I rode about six miles on a deflating tubeless the other night thanks to gloop, it got me home slowly...
The threads are the standard size Rab - they have to be - but the nuts are slightly under size to fit the inset bits. The washers need to be used in pairs, and I've not had any problems with slackening.

Id hate to talk one up but the last puncture(s - 3 in a week) i had in my stock wheels was just before i started using the Goop/Slime about 6 years ago. Im not sure how messy it will be on tubeless rims when you come to change them? In tubes its no mess. I cant bear the thought of seeing the Vespa on the back of a truck. No! Nay! Never!!! Please! I sometimes remember to carry a mini pump and repair kit too if im going for any distance. But if you're that unlucky that you get 2 punctures on the same journey, then hell, go find a bar instead, its not your day.

ahhh i was thinking for example standard thread 8mm sipp 7mm just to have it so its there parts or non. ive tried using emergency tyre weld on my rear tube it got me about 3 miles the puncture was my fault as i had nipped up the wheel and not put any air in the tube before hand and it was messy.i cant change the rear on my own without throwing it on the floor on to its side and i wont do that ever id rather go messy.its hard to find a stranger thats willing to stand holding the rear end of a scoot in the air while you take off the exhaust and change the wheel over

I had to change my rear hub after fitting a sip tubeless rim ....the sip nuts seemed to be very easy to cross thread and knackered 2 of the studs.... I got new nuts from Wasp performance , cos everyone else seemed to be out of stock & Nordlock washers off e**y

Hello again. Mickymidas - I keep hearing the same story (though I'm probably listening out for it now if you know what I mean). I'm going to stick with the SIP rims and have decided to get (another) new hub. The 'genuine' rear hub on BeedSpeed is £59 which seems more expensive than anywhere else - anyone know why? Also, there's a note on their site that says, "Please note : Our latest batch have come through without the Piaggio symbol on the hub body. Instead they have a Piaggio Part Makers logo 'KU'" To be honest, for £59 I'd want the Piaggio symbol.
