As per the numbered parts in the diagram from the above link; Nos. 17/16 (nut and spring washer) are obviously on the "far side" of the back-plate, and the dished, brass washer with a felt seal in, (No 13) is obviously on the fork tube side of the back-plate.
My uncertainty is....what side of the back-plate (fork tube side, or far side) do parts 14 and 15 go please?
Any advice gratefully received...

Looking at the (non existant) diagram it looks like parts 14 and 15 would go inbetween the backplate/hub and the pivot assembly. The spring washer and nut would then fix the pin in place on the other side of the pivot assembly.

Hello chaps. I've just tried the link....copied and pasted it into the address bar....and it works fine. Don't forget, I'm the one that thinks there's someone inside the computer box thing, so it must be easy for others.
Vespasco.....thanks, but are you sure?

well my lookin at sip grenade piccys , confirms a earlier suspicion after ya mentioned "brass washer n felt grease seal" , thats on earlier pre 56-57 forks have the brass felt washers , tho truth be told ive used em where ive the later non top hat roller bearings in , to take up the space ,the 1 up against the rim has to be cut to 2/3rds or it will rub on rim , your vbb forks originally dont have felt n brass cup washers , hope ya sorts ya worry , ive been there n tryin to get it all right when the bits on the bench dont add up ,well ive lost sleep on that 1 , H

Vespasco.....thanks, but are you sure? No im not sure, its my opinion just by looking at the drawings and it seems to make sense, especially if one of those packers 12 and 14 are not metal. If i could see what those parts actually were id make a better guess. They look the same as parts 12 and 11'a' , so i would assume they go in a similar position . (Ive never stripped one of these down, so use precaution/common sense )! Henri will put you straight I'm sure

OK. Thanks to you both.
Mine does have the brass/felt part definitely. I was looking at the old one the other day and decided to buy a new one from Allstyles for about £10!!!
I suppose sometimes thinking about these things too much can drive you mad. Early next week I will have time to re-assemble. If I do what seems right, and there's no movement of the fork on the pin, it must then be right.
Thanks again...

I think sitting on it making "brum brum" noises are quite a while off yet. Hoping to spend two or three hours trying to make sense of the front end tomorrow.
