Hi guys, I have just registered on here so please go easy on me.
I have just picked up my brand new vespa px125 (will add a pic in a day or two) it is gorgeous and I am over the moon with it. However two things have caught my attention.
Firstly the gear indicator is out. When in first gear the "N" lines up with the white dot. When in neutral the "2" lines up with the dot etc, etc. I have been told by a friend that this can be fixed quite easily by a competent mechanic. However when I phoned the bike shop earlier I was told "vespas have little quirks with them, & it's not a big issue so forget about it". Which wasn't the answer I wanted to hear.
Second issue is that the tyres on my bike are sava tram (i think this is correct spelling) which I've read aren't very good, however I have been told they should be michelins. Again when enquiring with the bike shop they claim vespa must have starting using sava rather than michelins. Can anyone confirm if this is true.
I only ask because the dealings I have had with his shop doesn't fill me with confidence.
And lastly I have been given an old haynes manual for the px, but it only goes upto 1999. Will this be ok to use or should I go and buy the new updated haynes manual?
If anyone could answer any of my questions I would really appreciate it.

Hi, mine's 6 month old and also came with Sava tyres. They are B14's. After riding in all weathers I have to admit they aren't that bad.

Thanks for your reply. That has put me at ease. Sadly I couldn't help but think that the bikeshop had changed them for a cheaper set.

thou this is a easy fix you should not have to sort it. having paid 3 grand or so on a NEW scooter i would have it straight back down that shop and tell them to ring you when they have sorted the selector out.dont let them fob you off.just ask him if he would drive his car with a mixed up gear box.

I too brought a new one in March came with Sava's on, in the rain/frosty mornings they are poor at best , but for £60 a pair inc delivery you can get Contimove 365's and they take 5 mins to fit to the split rims , and they handle better in the frosty/cold conditions or in rain than the Savas do in summer ... Treat yourself to a can of ACF-50 @ £15 a tin , cover the whole bike/engine (except brakes) and ride it .. I've done 6000 kms since March and won't stop using it until the Ice/Snow arrives ...
Steve
P.S I brought a manual for the PX covers all PX's etc from 1978 - 2012 (so all electric start models like ours are covered)

run my missus's scoot , cut-down cosa, on the conti-moves mentioned above an am really impressed with them , coz there softer for grip they wear faster than others ,but stick like the proverbial to the blanket , with your savas its worth checking the pressures now the cold is here ,they where probably pumped up in warmer weather an will be under pressure now , H

The white dot/N thing is just a matter of tweaking the cables at the bottom end. Five minutes with a spanner will do it right. It doesn't affect anything mechanically, and in time you'll probably find that you deliberately don't line your gears up to the mark on comfort stakes - Selecting first gear in the right place gives me grief, so I've changed it so that my wrist doesn't have to rotate as far.

Nik , that's just given me a great idea for when in back up and running. I find first is uncomfortable, my joints crack and creak and ache like mad in the cold. That could really help me
