Hi, Can anyone tell me if the light switch on a MK 1 PX should turn the front head light completely on/off or is it just used for Dipping the light and holding the horn button.
My front light is constantly on and can't be turned off maybe the last owner who wired the SIP speedo in has done something wrong ,,I'm not sure???
Cheers

if memory serves its a key in headset top early p 1 ,4 pole switch i'm guessing , might be wrong but i thought tail n pilot light on all time an headlights on a 3 position like rab described, ive never wired in a sip digital speedo so i'm not sure of what changes are needed on a vesp, on lams if i remember right you piggyback the power feed from the lighting circuit ,so maybe thats whats been done leaving lights on permanent . Rocker underneath should be on-side-main, and the rocker should be hi/lo IIRC.
Not seen one of those for a while though.

Id guess that lights have been permanently wired for always on dipped light. The sip speedo does need a power feed from the ac/lighting circuit, (d/c is also possible) so its possible that its wired like this deliberately!? Theres nothing wrong with having dipped headlight on all the time...its a legal requirement in most euro countries. Ive never (deliberately) turned my dip beam off since i built my scoot in 2009. No worries.

dont know bout scoots but have found on jap bikes running with lights on permanent can cause generator/alternator faults an kills batterys , on brit bikes forget it the bulbs go with vibrations , it is as vespaco says legal requirement across most of europe an also america.an can be safer here , just so long as ya dont get a false sense of security from it , " ive my lights on they must of seen me " =crunch ,on or off i still ride expecting the numptys to pull out on ya ,an am rarely disapointed, an never with a audi-driver ,tho bmw's come a close 2nd , so long as ya mot-ers happy bruce i'd leave it alone ,H

I see what youre saying H, i kind of agree too although my way of looking at lights on all the time is, the generator generates a/c constantly, so use it! Takes the strain off regulator!!?? Ignition is not affected as its essentially a seperate circuit. Probably complete jackson pollox but its been fine for my full a/c set up anyway If the earths are good then there should be no problems. Either way works just as well. I was actually going to wire them for permanently on but only decided against it as i could just as easily leave the switch on! And therefore have the option to turn them off if i ever needed to! (My scoot is wired to run fully a/c so the 'optional' battery i wired in afterwards is rarely getting used). But im not sure if OPs scooter is running lights off a/c or d/c... (A/c i think) If its d/c then defo, that will likely shorten the life of battery, having lights on all the time.

a alternater delivers a "base voltage" at whichever rev range your in , set by amount of windings n strength/number of magnets passing by ,but produces more currants? upto a top limit on demand , its prob alright on a straight ac circuit running 25/25watts front an 5-10 watt rears , bruces mark1 p is runnin 12volt an converted to electronic from points i think , its def old enuff to off been last of the points models ,an sip diggy speedo's draw minimal current ,so reckon a standard px stator will be well in its comfort zone with lights on permanent ,an if memory serves (always in doubt) he's full ac so should be good , H

Useless fact - running with lights on both slows you down and drinks more fuel. The power for the lighting has to come from somewhere.
It's not an amount you'd notice though, the word 'miniscule' was invented for this description.

nobody knows ya scoot better than you ,you ride it, an my memorys crap an makes my head hurt to use it, i cant "feel" it being cranky thru a mouse n screen , been meaning to say to ya after seeing ya "secret lair/batcave/shed" ,i hope youve considered extra security ,ground anchors, big chain through forks to bench ,etc , an i'm not "paranoid" coz i know there out to get me,as my recent garage woes proves,be a shame if some scrote got to thrash ya scoot to death coz all that protected it was piaggios crap chocalate steering lock , H
