Hi guys,, from my last thread I have removed my primary gear to replace all 6 smashed springs inside of the casing,
Anyhow, while the gearing's out I just wanted to know would this be the time to upgear the main primary? I only ask as from other previous threads regarding changing my clutch/tooth from 20 to 22 as I had way to many revs through the gearing and top end I installed a 22 tooth clutch but still having lot's of power but not much more top end I "maybe" better off changing my primary gear from 68 tooth with stock gearing's to maybe 67 or 65 tooth primary.
What's your thoughts guys?
Running a DR 177 kit,22 tooth Cosa clutch, standard 125 gearing

Interesting to note that is doesn't go much faster with the higher gearing. It is just going as fast as the power you have. It probably only feels like it is screaming as it doesn't rev that high. For example, some of my motorcycles rev to 15,000rpm and cruising along at 9,000rpm feels like tickover. 22/68 is usually ideal for your set up. If you want it to go faster you will need more power first

On 22/68 gearing your set up could make over 75mph on a GPS read out (about 90mph on a vespa speedo). If you have the power A standard DR177 will make loads of power at low revs but top out and not go any faster. Trust me don't change the gearing just find more high rpm power (without losing the low range!).

Obvious question!! How do I make more power???
But before anyone answers on that one, before I started the engine overhaul I was having all'sorts of issues with air leaks, carb not set up right and fuel starvation problems and not forgetting the not so good piston rings I found!!! I've now started looking inside the engine properly and I found so many things worn and damaged and not set up right I'm guessing after replacing these things and setting up the way it should be I might have a totally different running scoot! "maybe"

Its likely you would notice a difference if you set it all up correctly, even if its only due to the fact you built it yourself! It sounds to me like you should ignore how it 'was' built/setup and concentrate on building/setting everything up as it should be. Keep posting questions, im sure theyll all be answered.take your time to check everything works before you bolt it all together.
