Hi guys I've had the worrying task this weekend of splitting my engine for the first time and attempting a complete overhaul.
I had a real task splitting the case's as the things where well and truly stuck together with some orange gasket gooooo!
After much pulling and pushing and gently tapping they came apart, No sooner they came apart the crankshaft dropped out without no help.
Anyway do I need a special tool to put the shaft back in and if so where can I buy one cheap??
Cheers guys

Ideally yes youd have a special tool but whos going to spend £50 on a tool theyll prohably only use once!? Rightly or wrongly and because i dont have the proper tool, i use the clutch, (actually i use an old clutch that comes off easier) without a woodruff key so that again, it comes off easier, and if you get it right first time you could actually fit the clutch at the same time (remember the thick spacer/washer)!! but dont torque it up! Youd have to fit (your repaired)?! primary drive first if you do it that way too. Im in the middle of rebuilding my engine too!

Cheers fella,, getting all the gearing etc out seems to be the easy part,, but replacing and putting things back may be a different story.
I thought about using the clutch to pull the shaft back through the bearing so will give a try. cheers vespasco

freeze the crank n warm the bearings an it will slip on loads easier , no need for a crank tool, H

I've always used a rubber mallet on the flywheel nut!
