me n a mate bought a b reg vbb with a px engine an 10" forks as a unfinished project, frame had already been welded by a guy who didnt know scoots ,so he'd welded up all badge n runner holes aswell,DOH, an was blasted n straight so not to much grief , with it was all the bits just about to re-build forks ,new seat n muddgaurd ,lights ,rubbers n runers an a load of better quality embellishers aswell, apart from a new stand an paint n cables an tyres there was everything needed to resto frame.
the engine was in bits in boxes an we were told the name of guy who lad had bought it from an "tuned" it , as a running but rough lump,this tuner had kept the malossi kit an given him 2 barrels nn heads in stead ,a 125 an a "ported" 150, well frames in paint so thought time to build lump , started with crank to discover it had been cut n polished ,cept he'd cut the wrong side of crank web messin up the inlet times ,damaged the threads on ends an distorted it, not to bad as a local lad has gone long mazzie crank n sold me a 1500 mile 1 for 20 quid , put new seals n bearings in an started to assemble an noticed loads of play in gears , took out the only thing that came in bead blasted cases when bought, the tree,an discovered no bush in cases on wheel/clutch side for shaft ,just insulating tape packing ,oh hum i said
turns out shaft is from a early points px ,with the smaller 13mm shaft end , an cases are px 125/150e with the 15mm bush,also it was a 8" tree matched to 8" 2nd and 3rd gears an 10" 1st n 4th from the earlier px box , which sort of meshed a bit ,but had already chewed 2 teeth of the tree,reason lad took it off road n decided to resto,
thought i'd check some other bits ,an the flywheel that looks ok from 1 side an was in a "new" box turns out to be a lectric start 1 this genuis had "lightened" , god knows what he thought he was doin but prob the reason the cranks whipped ,
the ported 150 barrel has had porting done on top/head side of ports not underneath ,so is back to front ,an head skimmed to zero squish , so its the 1 125 regged scoot that will be 125cc ,but will have to buy a new box/gearset an flywheel , bout 200 quid ,havent had the heart to count primarys/clutch teeth on the new clutch there as i'm pretty sure it willbe wrong ,an a new clutch/primarys comes with the gearbox set anyway,
just amazed this was a running engine an the "tuner" is a locally known scoot mechanic with a middling rep, must off been 1 off his off days i guess ,or a bitsa cobbled together for sale to somebody he didnt like , dont know what lad paid for it ,didnt have the heart to ask as me n mate gave him 420 for a whole scoot in bits with bout 250-300 worth of new bits he'd bought to resto,did feel guilty tho as i drove away thinkin we'd got a bargain , dont feel so guilty anymore , 1 meal this project vultures gettin indigestion from , H
