Hi Gra, The MOT I just passed last month was the first time I’d done it myself for my scooter. The previous few years I’d paid for a service beforehand, which passed the responsibility to the bloke who serviced, then MOT’d it. As we’ve covered in loads of other threads, you’re pretty much paying someone to do stuff you can easily do yourself. I also was nervous about it, even though a fail just comes down to money and a few more jobs before representing for retest, and I’d already spent a ton of cash on it, but really didn’t want more jobs because I was a bit sick of it by then. I was lucky that the bloke who did mine had already done some work on my engine, and we’d got a bit of a rapport going, and through some pre-MOT questions I’d asked him, he knew I was serious about getting it right, and not just passing the MOT. I told him I was a bit nervous, and he said it’s only a basic safety test – we’d finished and were sitting around chatting before the time came round for him to be actually able to issue the MOT certificate. Bottom line is, as long as you’ve done all you can, once you present it for MOT, there isn’t much you can do about it. It shouldn’t be true, but it seems to depend so much on the bloke doing it. The worst that can happen is some expense and agro, but the best is a good feeling of relief and achievement. Good luck with it, don’t sweat it, let us know how you get on.
