Reaaly stupid question i think..but here goes.
I've got a T5 and have changed the rear wheel lots of times. I always put the wheel on with the deep part of the rim over the hub. This is how it was when i got it and thats how i fit it.
Now mate mates got a PX and he had a blowout on the way back from Southport beacuase the side wall shredded. After changing the wheel it seems that the inside of the tyre is rubbing on the shocker. Hes now fitted the wheel with the shallow rim over the hub.
I think this is wrong as his wheel had been the other way for 2 years with no problem.
Why is the tyre catching the shocker and can some one confirm that fitting the deep rimside over the hub is correct.
Many thanks.....Tim

No question is stupid, we all need to learn and this is an excellent forum for that. You are correct, the deep rim over the hub. you should only see 5 nuts if fitted correctly, if you can see 10 it's wrong. As for why his tyre shredded, that's another question. Is the wheel hub tight? If loose it could cause rubbing, but you would notice if it was due to sh*te handling. Put more air in the tyre 28 lb rear, or 33 two up. could it be rubbing the exhaust, a 'sports one' often does this if loose. Is the tyre on the right way round? there is an arrow on the edge, point it forwards to rotation. This could cause the problem. I always ask "what's the last thing you did before the problem presented itself, undo it and see what happens" Usually works. Don't be afraid to ask.
If your friend is still alive tell him to change it back immediately!

The tyre is definatly catching on the shocker, you can feel that there is no space between the shocker and tyre. Putting more air in would probably make it worse. Rotation arrow and valve etc are all correct.
I havent really looked at it properly yet, so i'll have to have a good look. He only pointed it out to me the morning that we left for IOM, so i've had no time. I suspect its something to do with the hub as this is the fixed point..if that makes sense.
I've only worked on lambrettas so i've a feeling i'm gonna be learning about the Vespa now.
Cheers.

Chinese proverb.... "man who asks question look stupid for 1 minute, man who does not, look stupid for life"
Wont help with your wheel but might cheer you up a bit!!

Llew I'd be checking out the shock and not the tyre! Shock internals could be collapsed or maybe just the long nut at the top has snapped, either way you need to check it out mate.
