Hi me again,,,,,
Having trouble with my front brake, every time I pull the brake lever the front end of my scoot judders like F**K,, and I mean judders
The scoot feels like a fair ground ride!!!!
Any way thought I would do some investigating and tried removing the front hub and seeing if the brake pads need replacing!!
"Well" the last idiot to own the scoot sprayed the wheel rim, forks and hub all at the same time while still attached to the scoot and I can't for love or money remove the hub to see what's going on inside!! due to mega thick paint.
I undone the 5 bolts removed the wheel, undone the big bolt then removed the spring clip thing!! (sorry don't know what it's called) but cannot get the dam hub off!!
Any idea's what the juddering could be and what I can do to remove the Hub Please!!! Thanks

Hi. It could be brake shoes, or possibly something more serious such as a wheel bearing. The 'circlip' is for holding the wheel bearing in place, not the hub to the stub axle, a hub extractor is what is needed to get the hub off. It's held on by the large nut, a washer and a a seal on to the stub axle. You can buy a 3 legged puller from Halfords or eBay I guess, and that should be enough to get the hub off, I doubt very much that any amount of paint would not the hub from coming off! had the same problem turns out the previous owner had decided to do away with the tanged washer between the fork lock nuts so they were gradually coming loose might be worth checking before you pull the hub apart .

You have slackened the brake cable right off? It's rare the hub comes away without doing.
It could be that the forks are loose too, a shagged bearing is usually a constant rumble, a judder under braking says something is loose to me.

Slacken the cable right back, if you've got even the slightest groove in the hub (and on anything over about 15 years old, that's going to happen) then the brake shoes will be sitting in it, so the hub will catch as you try to pull it off.
To test the fork bearings, put the scooter in the stand on a plank or a couple of bricks, and grab the front wheel and handlebars and try to rock backwards and forwards. There shouldn't be any play in that at all. If there is, then handle bars off and nip up the lower of the two collars you can see so that the steering is solid but not stiff. Then lock up the top collar to the bottom. The traditional tool is a mallet and screwdriver, but you can actually get a proper C spanner to do it.

Hi, again All tightened up and problem of juddering has stopped,,,, But,,,,, I cannot for love or money get to the brake shoe's ,,, the bloody thing will not budge tried slackening off the cable, tried giving it a good whack around the edge but just won't come off. Am I right in saying I need to remove wheel, undo the large nut, and remove the Cir clip?? and then the front should pop off? Please please help , I can't take the scoot out until I change the brake shoe's

The most violent thing I know, when it comes to removing a stubborn hub, is to get a mate to hold the scooter uprightand keep a firm grip on the bars. You lie on your back and kick out with both heels at once, one either side of the wheel. If that doesn't shock it loose then nothing will.
I dread to think how work those brake shoes will be.
Don't forget to lever and pin the actuating arm as far 'forward' (against the cable pull) as you can to ensure that there is minimal shoe resistance. It's been a while since I've done this (ah! Disc brakes... Different problems instead!) but I think I used a chain of zip ties last time I has something similar.

Hi,,,, Cheers everyone for the advice ,
Finally removed the front hub,,, used a very big lump hammer (Rubber) and gave it a good belt all round the edge.
good job too as I found nothing left of my brake shoes and a smashed up bearing.. Few job done, onto next one!!!!
