have thought about writing this for a couple of weeks an then held off after stickys jibe in last months scootering ,in case people think i'm jumping on his bandwagon/creeping to him, i dont know the guy an prob will never meet him so have no need to curry favour with him, ok.
in general scooterists can be a bit clique ,the bretta guys looking down from there "rolls royce's of scooters" on the vespa "italian shopping bikes" ,geared versus auto's,older models versus P series , smallies versus "lardys",there words not mine,etc etc. an dont get me started on the mod/scooterboy stuff an clubs an rally goers or not.if youve read my other threads you might of sussed i dont care which it is,if its got wheels an makes a noise an isnt run by a computer i love em,an want to take em apart an put back together ,coz i can ,an its what passes for fun in "chez henri" .
anyway to get my missus onto geared scoots ,i bought her a cosa ,it was cheap,in excellent nick an local,an as she had already decided she wanted something different an cut down it made sense,as the general consensus amonst friends/scooterists/mods/scooterboys was i couldnt make it worse than piaggio did. this left me with a big pile of bits that werent needed an i thought to find them good homes with people who needed them.was advised to try the cosa owners group,cosanauts,on facebook.this an a e bay listing opened up a whole new earth of weirdness to me . there mostly all nut-jobs ,some nice some not so, i know scooters can do weird things to people but cosa's take it to a whole new/higher level .
coz they know most people dont like there model of vespa's its bred a "bunker-like" mentallity in the die-hard fans ,they seriously believe the general scooter buying public got it wrong in prefering the p series over the cosa ,an one day were all going to come round to there point of view an cosa-ise are scoots .pure madness ,an if you thought e bay was full of skinflints/dreamers/timewasters once again the cosanauts take it to a higher level .not only wanting stuff for free but baulking when i wouldnt pay the postage to send it to them .i'm not joking ,bits that werent perfect/broke but could be fixed,that i wouldnt put a price on but offered anyway in case they were some use to somebody,an were tip bound if not wanted ,i had people enquiring ,wanting photo's an postal quotes,an then not even bothering to say no-thanks ,an the guys who suddenly stopped wanting to buy parts when they sussed what i was doing to a "sacred cow/cosa" ,as if i'd put em back on if they werent taken ,
dont get me wrong ,i met some nice guys with cosa's ,an some other defilers/customisers owned up an "came out",to borrow a gay phrase,as cosa modifiers, best answer i saw when someone asked me "why" i was cutting 1 , was a chop owner who posted "coz we can" ,an i added that "at night i could hear the scoot crying out for the grinder",which if youve ever seen a cosa up close an in the flesh you will understand what i mean.
will post a picture when its done ,just a front mudguard to choose/buy an a lowered seat to make/fit an its done ,an for devilment will post it on the cosanauts page too,already chosen the tag-line " its not a scoot anymore ,its my babys "urban-assault vehicle",cosa" , something about the angular lines an matt-black looks sci-fi/military like.
anyway my rant is over ,an ive probably made myself look even nuttier than some cosa owners , but you have been warned ,if ya think scooterists are nutty you aint seen nothin til ya meet the cosanauts . i'm off to lie down in a cool-shady shed an whisper sweet-nothings to scoot bits until this fever passes or i can convince nursey to up my dosage , cheers Henri
