Hi everyone, I have a question about my 1959 Vespa Douglas 125. I have the original buff log book, mot and road tax for this bike.
The frame and log book match, however when looking over the internet to find out which model of bike it is. The frame and engine number has letters before the numbers.
The bike only consist of seven number on frame and engine, which match the original buff log book.
Is this correct and can anyone tell me if there are anywhere to look to find any more numbers.
Many thanks Steve

The letters before the numbers relate to the particular model. For example ; VNA1T(on the chassis , VNA1M for engine) would be your 152L2 model. From the numvers you should be able to determine the year of production.

douglas scoots only have the riveted on ali tab on the engine side of rear arch .the normal place for stamped in numbers at the bottom of frame under the nearside/left hand side panel on Italian frames should be blank/unstamped.also if original engine an frame numbers should match on douglas but not on piaggio .the Italians have pre-fixes for the engine/frames with letters an numbers but douglas didn't always use them on earlier machines.a 59 scoot is probably a Italian manufactured an just assembled in Bristol, from memory they got the franchise in 55 an started actually manufacturing instead of assembling in mid-58,have been told that the sportique (vbb1t) is the first model they manufactured all by themselves ,but have also read that they also did the slightly earlier vba types aswell, but don't believe they had the presses/tooling for the earlier vba frames ,as there's subtle differences in the frames . scooterhelp.com has some numbers for douglas scoots, but the veteran vespa club hold more info, there's isn't a free forum tho an membership costs 15quid a year.an you already know the make/model of your scoot as they were sold as "douglas(vespa)125" .ok,if your trying to retain the original reg an get a modern v5 the britishlambretta archive is the dating certificate i'd recommend ,there the most helpful an cheapest (7quid),there website explains the process . ok, cheers henri

^ As above, speak to Bill Drake at VVC, he is the guru on all things early Vespa and Douglas, with pics and the numbers he'll be able to fill in the details for you..

am home now an dug out my 62 sportique rf60 logbook ,couldnt remember for sure yesterday but as its a 62 its got a 5EC prefix from douglas where as the equivalent itialian would be a vbb1t .i have been told but not sure ,if all youve got is numbers the first 2-3 can be a model number an its only the last 4-5 that are a chassis number but where this is the case there should be a dot/dash or some mark between them.as bryno says bill drake is the guru on douglas, but the vvc charge for certificates ,e-mails with tech/number questions are normally answered but not quickly unless a membership is taken out aswell ,15 quid a year an a dating cert for 10quid,you do then get access to there forum an it is the best place for tech questions/spares info/an general old vespa stuff.ok .
