Over the last few months I have carried out a revamp of my PX200E as it was looking rather shoddy, although started and ran reasonably Ok. As far as the engine goes, I have de-coked the barrel, head and piston and replaced with new rings and gasket. I removed and stripped the carb, replacing all gaskets including the gasket on the oil-flow. As the scooter was sitting for over a year, apart from just running the engine a few times, I drained all the petrol out and filled with new. I also replaced the standard exhaust with a sports model purchased from SIP.
Now that all is back in the scooter, the scoot will only run with the choke out, and stalls when pushed in. There is also an excessive amount of smoke, which I first put down to the oils used when rebuilding the barrel.
I have read some forums which suggest the following:
a) Air leak between carb housing and engine case
b) oil seal behind flywheel
c) incorrect carb settings
I'm pretty sure 'a' is not the cause, also 'c' as I did not remove, nor remove or turn either the idle or mixture screws on the carb. The oil seal I am not so sure. the only thing I can think of is that I had the engine sitting in an engine stand, with the barrel facing up, for two to three weeks while waiting for part, work commitments and available time while I carried out the de-coke. Could it be possible that during this time, the seal dried out and cracked and is now causing the problem. Or could disturbing the oil flow within the carb be the issue.
Any other advice help would be appreciated.
