My personal preference is Castrol TTS fully synthetic, but most fully synthetic oils will do the job. TTS has the benefit of being easily obtainable in Halfords, so not only is it sh*t hot, it's also easy to get hold of! Jobs a goodun!!!

You want an "injector" type two stroke. TTS and Rock Oil Synthesis 2 are both great fully synthetic oils, both helping reduce the buildup of carbon and producing a cleaner burn. However if your engine is standard then a semi synth is more than capable and saves you wasting your hard earned reddies. IMHO of course

Lan.... SMOKES MORE??? your point is??? The whole point of modern oils is to burn more cleanly and leave less residue behind, therefore extending the period before the need to decoke exhaust/piston crown/exhaust port etc, aswell as actually providing much better lubrication. A smokey engine is usually a sign of something wrong or using too much oil!

Normally I use TTS or Castrol ScootR, but just before I took my T5 off the road I was using Castrol R40 Racing oil, smells lovely, but it does seperate in the tank if left too long. After I have finished my rebuild I will probably stick to TTS fully synth.

A smokey engine is usually a sign of something wrong or using too much oil! for a start rock is just as good as castrol if not better, i am making no point except for that im a petrol head and i like blue smoke clouds ,i certainly dont need a lecture on things i already know, its personal preference at the end of the day, you use one brand i use another there should be no problem there

Can anyone tell me what the advantages of fully/semi synthetic oils are, and which are generally better for scooters?
My 2-stroke-race-bike-obsessed chum is swearing blind that I should only ever consider a semi-synthetic oil and that I should always put a tiny amount into my T5's main petrol tank as a sort of pre-mix. Is this sound advice or merely overkill from a bloke who spends most of his weekends thrashing his highly-tuned Yamaha 250 round race-tracks throughout the south, presumably subjecting his bikes engine to slightly more wear and tear than mine generally incurs!

his advice is good but he uses his motorcycle for different reasons, in my opinion you should always buy the best you can afford so go for fully synthetic e.g. castrol TTS, putoline TT, Rock Oil Synthesis injector 2 etc.

^ and (so I'm told) it can do more harm than good as it reduced the actual volume of fuel going though, so makes it run leaner.. probably

p.s. don't trust Autolube, they're sh*t!
cut the pipe and block it off and run oil in petrol tank
