hi,finally after 4 years running my scoot on another scoots reg plate ,it was a cheap running/rideable import that i meant to run for a couple of weeks an then re-build but other scoot/bikes/car projects kept getting in the way ,naughty i know,an the worry about insurance if stolen or in a accident got to me.having read in the forums about the nova/dvla hassles was expecting loads of hassle an tried to get it done whilst local dvla office was still open .but as the scoot has been changed abroad to make the left side panel removeable an a spare wheel carrier put on ,it was a 150 super made to look rally-ish ,this has meant the frame number has been moved ,cut out an re-welded in missing half the pre-fix .this caused me problems getting a dating certificate, with some registers refusing to even consider it,causing me to miss local dvla closing date.
was advised to try the britishlambretta archive ,an they were very helpful an sorted a certificate for me ,7 quid an a week to do .
next up was insurance ,with loads of companys refusing to do it on a chassis number alone,or cancelling the policy after 28 days if no reg number has been supplied an charging between 25-50 quid to cancel or add reg number to policy .tried carole nash ,as after 28 days they just reduce policy to fire/theft alone an dont charge for adding reg number .i'm 47 ,dont have the best postcode an a theft claim 2 years ago, full comp with agreed value an salvage rights was 140 quid .
was told to expect 2-4 months for dvla to issue a number ,so just as weather got nice had to lay scoot up in garage ,with my luck just as i decide to go legit would get caught, without bad luck i'd have no luck at all.any way, sent of documents an waited ,today got new reg number , only took 2 WEEKS , ?!!! am well happy an feeling guilty about all the rude words ive said about dvla in the past .
