Just wondering if there's a 'standard' place for a tax-disc holder to go on a Vespa - if so, can anyone tell me where? Mines currently security-bolted to the front mudguard in an Oxford holder, but looks a bit naff where it is. At the risk of being shown a yellow card by Lucia, whats everyone elses fave position?

Didn't want a bolt on holder on mine so I cut a circle of double sided clear vinyl and stuck it to the back of the leg sheids above the tool box

The law for displaying a tax disc on a motorcycle states that it must be on the left hand side, in front of the engine.
However, everyone knows that this isn't always possible on a scooter. Because there's a bolt on the right hand side of the mudguard on a PX, lots of people put the holder there. As long as it's clearly displayed, once again it would be a seriously anally retentive PC that stuck you on for not having it in the legal place. Or just one from North Wales.
Having said that, I've always kept mine stuck inside the toolbox door to stop anyone nicking it. Strictly speaking, not legal because it's not 'displayed', but it's there should anyone stop me and ask where it is.

I have a stainless disc holder bolted onto my fork leg, can't say I am over keen on it being that out in your open though, it might have to move.

^ not heard that myself, but in theory it's all in the central database anyway so when they do a plate check they'll know if you have tax, insurance and MOT (once all on the new MOT system that is)

I've never had one on any of the three bikes I've owned over the past 10 years.
I always carry it in my wallet, ready to produce if asked, and I have been asked 3 times.
In a Scottish city by police after being witness to a road accident, and also at a rural road block checking for stolen vehicles.
And once in Cumbria when I got pulled by a traffic cop for riding with my flip-up helmet flipped up on a hot day, and warned that it is illegal to do so (I didn't know that, and still don't know whether to believe him) but he was friendly enough and sent me on my way after promising to always keep my lid shut, a promise I have faithfully never kept.
None of these coppers were remotely interested at my tax disc residing in my wallet and not on the bike, as long as I could produce it when asked.

I believe it is illegal to ride with a fip-up flipped-up, my instructor told me that. He also pointed out that Police m/c riders wear this type of helmet, have a look next time you see a Police bike, bet his helmet is flipped up

Really, I use a flip up lid, it's pretty uncomfortable riding with the flip up thou, tries to break your neck at any kind of speed

Hmm. My disk is on the front right . Mind you, no one would get very far trying to remove it, it's held together with rust - not very pleasant. Maybe a new holder is in order this year.

On my p2 mine was bolted to the number plate. Interesting points about the tax disc not having to be on display and the flip up lid.
Another point of interest is the "daytime mot" - No lights of any description needed. not even a brake light and the lack of a speedometer (last one is dependant on rigidity of testing station) . Bagsy's cut down smallframe racer (members scooters page) has a daytime MOT and I Know that a lot of pre-war motorcycles have them too. I wonder how many traffic cops are actually aware of this MOT option !
