Hi all.
can anyone out there give me any info on the following...
I have the opportunity to purchase a PX125 BUT the engine has been modified to a 200. The log book (old school!) shows 124.
DVLA say go to post office with all paperwork, mot, log book and insurance they will amend and send off. If more details of modification are required they will inform. This leads to the next problem.
I phoned Bennetts about insuring for a 200 and they told me that none of their underwriters would insure a scooter that had been modified from a 125 to a 200.
This tells me that the only way to drive this 125 (200) is illegally ie, don't tell DVLA or the insurance company. This is something I'm not prepared to do.
Any comments or legal ways round the problem gratefully received.

You say that Bennetts wouldn't insure the scooter, but not whether they would insure you - what license do you have?

Hi sime66
I asked to take out insurance for me to drive the scooter. I have a full licence. Could the problem be that it is a rebore mod and not some form of kit upgrade?

I was hoping someone else would pick this up because it’s a registering/insurance matter, rather than the license. But to be 100% legal and properly insured, it seems to me that either you need to have a proper telephone conversation with a more knowledgeable insurer and make sure any modifications are crystal clear, or you need to ask what is the benefit of this particular scooter and not an unmodified 200cc, and then be aware of the implications of modifying that one too (even brakes, exhaust, etc…..). There are useful threads here about the subject of making sure insurers are aware of everything to avoid agro in event of a claim, type ‘insurance’ in the search and have a read-up. That’s all I can offer really.

Probably a bit late now but..
If it has a 200 engine fitted, then you need to complete the changes on the V5 with new engine number and it will get reg as a 200, you are then essentially insuring a PX200E, once the V5 is correct this should not be a problem.
If the original engine has been modified to 200 cc that is a different kettle of frogs, you can still re register as a 200cc with DVLA but you should probably declare it as modified with insurance which will be i'd say more hassle and not every insurer will cover engine mods.
Personally, I'd just go look for a PX200E registered as such, it's less hassle!

Hi there. I am looking to purchase a px125 but know nothing about this model when it comes to signs to look out for when buying second hand. Are there any specific faults to look out for? Has anybody got any tips or can point me in the right direction? It would be much appreciated.
