hi,,one thing ive never done is scrap a scooter, however on one of my vespas, the frame has totally had it,you can put a hole in it with a screwdriver :)so my question is,how do i go about scrapping it,can i just give it to a scrap merchant,ad then inform the dvla, its scrapped,or do you have to hand it in at a dvla specified scrap yard?what are my options?

A few options ...one legal ,two not so , but could make you a few quid .
1.(legal) There is a section on your log book (V5) for scrapping a vehicle . Fill in this section & post off , then take frame to local tip / recycling centre and leave it with the rest of scrap metal that they recycle.
2. Ask about local scooter people(or forums) if anyone wants to buy the scrap frame off you just to get the V5. This option , you just change details and send off , as if you had sold the scooter legally . They may need a logbook for a unregistered project or need to legalise a dodgy/nicked scooter . I am not advocating option 2, but it is not unheard of for this to go on to make a scooter of unproven history legal.
3 .Or source another frame yourself and clone the scooter you already have ....once again , not kosher , but it goes on.
The choice is yours.....Mick

Option 2 - help someone else 'ring' a stolen scooter
Option 3 - help yourself 'ring' a stolen scooter
Personally, I'd not do either..

As I said Bryno , I don't advocate any of the "other" options , but we all know it goes on and probably know someone who would "bend " the rules.

Oh yes, a suprising number of people ask how to register a scooter with no frame number because; - it got accidently ground off when I restored it - Is just soo rusty, its just not there anymore - it got cut off and lost when i was making a cut down - it got cut off when I repaired the frame - it just never had one, honest!

The frame number on my P2 has never been visible. It's even worse now it has a layer of hammerite. Luckily my MOT man is of the impression that he's not allowed to take the panel off to look.

Let's be honest here......... if it were to be properly investigated we'd probably find that a hell of a lot of scoots over 10 years old would be classed as dubious, scoots have been cut down, engines have been replaced etc.
Please remember that once upon a time scootering was a "cheap" way for yoofs to have a buzz in the days before ebay parkas and Weller hair cuts put the price of scoots through the roof.
I remember the days when one number plate covered 3 or 4 scoots, everyone ripped their L plates off and memorized the details of a mate who had a full license, scoots were put together out of bits in your mates shed the week before a rally..............
I'm not saying it's right but it happened, and still does.

Not sure what your point is Joey? of course, we all know what goes on and anyone who has been around scooters a while will know how to go about such things, but personally I just don't think we should be sewing such seeds on an open forum like this..

Now I've re read my post I'm not sure what I'm on about either..........
It's naughty, don't do it!
Personally I'd advertise it as "requiring major attention," you'd be amazed at what a decent welder can do.

Thank for the info Joey. That's great. I have now just one number plate between all the vehicles. Excellent................................maybe not eh? Well I for one am amazed what people do. All very well until some idiot pulls out in front of you. You're completely in the right............................... but have no insurance, probably no licence when they've finished with you, a criminal record etc etc
As others have said
DO NOT DO IT!

Eh? As I said in the good old bad old days it went on a lot, people have grown up a bit since then ( ) I do, however, stand by my saying that I'd sell it as a doer upper, you can buy new legshields, floorpans etc and holes can be plated by a decent welder and as long as it's done to a standard to pass MOT then what's the problem?

the frame is f-----,, you can put a hole in it with a screwdriver in most places,if it could have been welded,i would definetely have done it,, so i will be scrapping it,i bought the scoot from my local scoot shop 5 years ago,and it was on its last days then, will keep the rest of the bike for spares

Vespasian, I was talking to a mate at the weekend, he reckons there is no such thing as an unrestorable frame. Want to set him a challenge?

its un restorable, you can put a hole in the frame almost everywhere, even the hole that seats the engine bolt is coming away, its mainly just rusticle powder holding it together, when i bought the bike 5 years ago,the dealer only charged me £150 for the bike, because of the condition of the frame ,good deal for me for the parts alone
