Ay up.....Has anyone on here fitted a modcharger , mobile phone charger to a Vespa ? Got one today and undecided where to run wires . Rally frame with P200 fitted , no battery.....regulator on battery shelf 1. Run wires from regulator , into frame and out at breather hole in front of tank , and codge up under seat . (out of site) 2. From regulator under nearside panel clip and attach to Shovell centre rack I have fitted. ( means showing 8" of cable but easier fitting option.) Any thoughts or ideas ?..... Cheers ,Mick PS , it works ok !!!! ;D

If it just requires connecting to the AC lighting circuit from the rectifier, and to earth, can’t it be connected up the pointy end of the scooter instead? In the tool box for example, and using a connection behind the horncover or under the headset? I know faff all about any of this, especially ‘lectrics, and it looks like a splendid little jobbie that I might well get for myself, but I’m really thinking it would be better if the actual box was sited away from the rectifier and the connections taken from elsewhere.

Kru ,.. tbh looking at the complete package , if you know what you are doing technically & what bits to use , you could probably knock one together yourself . But as I didn't I chose the retail option . £20 + p&p seemed ok.
Sime66.. . Your idea could probably work on a later PX , where the horncover comes off for the leccy conbloc and the headset splits in 2 . A rally frame is old skool and a one piece frame and headset and to fit into the toolbox may mean drilling into the back of the fork tube . I have seen that done to hide a semi hydraulic disc conversion master cylinder , but a bit over the top for this .

Bridge rectifier feeding a fire alarm gel battery.... Nothing to it Look it up. Can't see a gel cell battery that small as you say is fitted within the case of the ModCharger.

I've a charger on mine as it is.
After changing the electrics from DC to AC a few years back I decided I wanted a battery feed, so added a DC reg/rec and ran a battery off that, a sort of half way point between the two systems.

I've just replaced the DC regulator that battery model Vespas come with, and then run a wire to a ciggy lighter mounted on the left panel via the battery. It seemed a good idea at the time, but it isn't. Run it up the frame instead! In theory, I should be able to feed sat nav and phone if I keep the engine running, but a battery so I can do it when stopped sounded better. Battery is the standard 9Ah Vespa one as I had it in the garage, and I have an idea about a stereo with a difference. Lay awake most of Thurs night thinking of way to make one, knackered at work Friday . Would it be possible to run wire from regulator to lighter socket using an inline fuse and piggyback spade connectors ? Then just use normal 12v charger / phone plug . Think i'm going for the under seat option for time being . Out of sight and fairly easy to sort .

For the Modcharger, under the seat (in the case of a rally), seems simplest. You don't really want wires kicking around. I got a bit confused with Nik and the full-sized battery and Piaggio regulator, with back-to-the 80's-sound-system post, but no matter. I'm in no hurry to do this, just thought it was a good idea for satnav etc, but at present I'm thinking: BGM 4-pin AC/DC regulator (or similar) to replace existing regulator, run to a 12v battery, not full size, but yet to be determined depending on use, run to a fused 12v waterproof lighter-type outlet, probably on the top/side of the toolbox. it will be about twice the cost of Modcharger, but will give continuous use, for example stopping for petrol. I do not know if I'm right, but I have done a bit of reading, I do not think the Modcharger will charge a battery, which I would like to do. I may decide to keep it simple and get a Modcharger, or I may go all the way to a proper battery - later on; the discussion/investigation is ongoing. I'm off to our local rally in a minute, where I shall try to pick some brains if anyone is sober!

Sime a standard 5 pin regulator form a battery model Vespa and a small battery is the way to go kid. I have a ciggie lighter where my autolube sightglass used to be but really you can put it anywhere.

Damn, didn't think of putting it there. Annoyed now.
What Joey said, but yes, you could run it without the battery as long as you only used it when the engine was running. I'm not doing a back to the 80s stereo, I'm planning on butchering a rare 80s accessory, so need a large battery.

Hi Chaps If you need any information on Modcharger just drop us an email at sales@modcharger.co.uk. I notice one post suggest that they can make a single unit for a £5 - I wish we could. If you want to see how well it is reviewed check out www.facebook.com/modcharger. Thanks Ian
