Hi all, just having abit of a job splitting my engine caser in half. Never done it before so dont want to go and do something stupid (I'm good at that) 7 bolts out going in from one side and one coming in from the other. Nothing else is there? I've given the seam abit of a tap with a rubber mallet but dont wanna go too ballistic. I know there are tools you can buy for this job but I'm guessing some of you boys have alternatives? Any hints much appreciated - ta

Don't forget the 4 nuts behind the stator.

Stator removal needs an extractor tool. Easy when you have it.

Stator removal needs a special tool?
No it doesn't, no such tool.
Remove the flywheel. Unscrew the three 5mm panheads that hold the stator in place. Don't pull the wiring out and the stator right out, you don't need to. Remove all the 7mm nuts from the casing, including the four you've just revealed.
You have removed the cylinder I assume? If not, and the engine is still in place, remove the lower suspension bolt. Now remove all the studs that hold it to the casing bar the one nearest you and at the bottom. Wind the piston down and the cylinder will lift and turn to clear the piston. It will slide off then.
Right, now for the trick to splitting Vespa engines... Press the kickstart down gently and the two halves should seperate.
You have removed the selector box?
Done.

My error Nik. I meant the tool for removing the rotor/flywheel!!! Ooops. Even though I read the Haynes manual about the kickstarter on re-assembly I still forgot it at first. Dur

Right, instead of staying a new thread, I'll use this one. I've read it all but not seen what I need. I need to know if there T5 engine splits the same as a standard PX one or does the T5 have an extra fastener? I can crack them apart at the top but the bottom isn't moving. I've noticed what looked like a stud which goes between both sides with no obvious way to unfasten it. Picture, if it works, shows it to the right of the empty bolt hole.

PX and T5 casings split the same
This is a locating peg, can be taped out with flat punch, but is not necessary to remove to split casings Its steei in alloy so is often corroded. If you are this far down, punch it out, clean it up and grease it

Good stuff, happy to help anyone having a go, its often the case you know but just need that little but of support.
Ive done loads and its second nature, once youve one....
Ask away its the best thing to do in any doubt.
I did a PK motor in lock down, last one i did was 20 yrs + ago but it came flooding back once i got it apart.
