Afternoon all.
Sprint has died on me and refuses to start.
Seemed to be some smoking when it first died, but think it was just burning fuel in the exhaust.
My gut feel is it's electrical.
Have replaced spark plug but still nothing. Now planning to work my way backward down the circuit to see if I can find anything wrong.
Can anyone tell me how I test the HT lead, the condensor, the stator and anything else that could be killing the spark.
Or if you think I'm wrong (and it has been known) any other suggestions.
Thanks
Phousty

well for a start remove the spark plug from the cylinder head and reconnect to the htlead and turn the ignition on,kick over the engine and see if the spark plug sparks ,place it against the metal carb housing and see if you can see a spark there, then you will know if it is a electrical fault or not

Thanks Lan
Have done that and definetley no spark.
Rear light and horn are working when I kick it over so there's some electric. Any ideas?
Could it be the HT lead? Any way to test the lead?

im not sure about that there not usually much that can go wrong with a ht lead, try turning all lights off and kick over again if there is still no spark you should check the points to see if there intact

Have you got a 12v conversion Phousty?

No conversion Spence. The thing is pretty much original (I think unfortunately sometimes).
Points are opening and closing, but could do with checking gap. If the points are out, would that stop the spark completely?

have you checked the coil that may have failed or the coil maynot be grounded and therefore there is no spark, and check the gap on the points if you can

Got it going... took flywheel off and discovered that one of the wires on the stator had come loose. Soldered it and it started first time Thanks for suggestions. Great to find a UK based Vespa forum. Scooterist BBS is good, but you have to sift through a lot of stuff to find what you want. This is great. All the best, Phousty
