any ideas what the difference is between px and t5 clutches also px and t5 4th gear? my t5 engine seems to be seriously down geared it runs perfect and all the gears work fine but its too low geared and screaming its gonads off at 50mph i know the clutch isnt slipping at all so it can only be the gearing, im wondering what to try first ie clutch or buy another gearbox and swap that,, i want to sort it while the scooter is being painted and also if i wanted to rev the sack off sommat at 50mph id of bought a vespa moped lol any ideas apreciated, steve

If its screaming its rocks off at 50 then it has to be clutch related. That's only about 6000 rpm, it should rev higher than that.
Bring it round again....
But bear in mind what I keep telling you about the chrome you're carrying.

LOL. The chrome could be the issue! A T5 should go to sixty at least. I can't recall the gear ratios but there is a complete list of them on Beedspeeds site. My PX was the opposite it was dying in top, until we realised some numpty had fitted a P200 Christmas tree gear set and in top it was geared too high. 1st 2nd and 3rd are similar as most Vespas, and unlikely to have any huge effect on top speed, but 4th, the number of teeth on the clutch final drive and/or the christmas tree all vary quite a bit depending on what engine you have in the thing. Most likely someone has fitted a complete clutch with too many teeth on it, or the wrong 4th gear. Its not likely to be the whole gearbox thats wrong, just one or two bits. Take a look on Beedys website and then begin counting teeth. Good luck with it

lol nik theres no chrome on it i took it all off , i can understand what u mean but its not weighing it down so it cant pull, if you imagine riding it flat out in lets say 2nd gear and keeping it flat out so it sounds like its gonna explode cose its revving to kingdom come thats what its like in 4th and as we discussed the clutch deffo isnt slipping without a doubt, i dunno what the max rpm on a t5 engine is but it must be easily maxed out at 50ish it must be a good engine not to blow up revving like that lol, flamin thing is pleading for mercy.

If it's screaming but only doing 50, it can only be the clutch. The gearing on that engine is right, I'd put money on it Bring it round here, we'll pace it against mine and see how much difference there is against the P2. Work from there.

I was having a similar issue with my clutch a few months back. The clutch would only slip at high revs. Normal round town and up to 50 or so was perfect. You couldnt tell the clutch was dud until well open in 4th and it would suddenly start sipping!

Steve, when I had a play on it the engine felt fine. Chuck it in the back of the car and I'll pop the clutch out and do a tooth count just to be on the safe side. Text me and I'll let you know when I'm free I can't remember what type of clutch was in it, but I'll take your word for it! And as PXGuru, I've had the same problem, you really don't realise it's slipping until someone comes flying past you.

cheers nik,, its finding time to do that with this job of mine,, just been looking at clutches there is a 20 tooth a 21 tooth and a 22 tooth clutch for t5 and same again with the clutch drive cog, i know what slipping clutches feel like eg when the revs rise and the speed etc doesnt also when a clutch slips and u back off on the throttle u can feel it bite again my peugeot car was only slipping when it got warm and only at 70mph but once it was warm it would slip in the higher gears,, just a pain i suppose lol

I'm with Nik on this, sounds like clutch is slipping, if it's cosa type it could just be incorrecly assembled.........
1st steel in is the thick one, then there's one with a small notch cut out of inner teeth, most people (including myself once upon a time,) don't notice the notch but if it doesn't go in second you can get problems. I had slip and snatch???
As for gearing, standard T5 is 20/68 primaries and the 4th is the same as any late PX, 36 teeth.
I wouldn't try to upgear by using a 21 tooth clutch gear unless you have a torquey pipe, and even then it'll struggle.

yes the second plate has either one or two notches on the edge, as it's same thickness as the rest, i thought they are oil channels.
