ok....i must be dead lucky to have survived these years of riding my vespa without a puncture; only to come back from shopping and finding that i had a flat in the motorcycle bay. Definate hole in both tyre and tube. Thank goodness for spare wheel. question is, the hole in the tyre is about 2-3mm wide. Will i still be able to use the tyre (as a spare at least) or should i go and get a new tyre.
secondly, anyone got those whitewall tyre inserts fitted? are they good or is it best to buy whitewall tyres (thinking of getting some, but if the inserts are good will go for those) and are the inserts easy to put on?

Can't help with the tyre repair question. But my Sprint has whitewall tyres fitted and they're a right pig to keep clean. Mine are covered in black marks that I can't remove.
I want to change to tubeless stainless rims and when I do I shall probably have plain black tyres fitted as I'm fed up scrubbing the whitewalls!

I've only ever repaired tubeless motorcycle tyres. They glue a mushroom-type plug in and then put in such pressure that it forces an airtight seal. Dunno about tubed though, they might plug the tyre and you get a new tube? have you thought of ringing round tyre depots and asking if they repair bike tyres? Then casually drop into the conversation that they're 8/10inch wheels (!) as they might not have a suitable jig. HTH but if I'm honest, I dunnoeither! Unchartered terriroty for me Good luck, Mrs M

Don't get the inserts mate, it's like getting stick-on soles instead of a new pair of shoes. I've got whitewalls on my Sprint too. They're still pretty new so they're very clean, but you've got to keep right on top of the dirt otherwise you might as well just give up. I use a little squirt of WD on a cloth to get the marks off, but a mate of mine swears by Cif. If you do decide to get some whitewalls, don't scrimp and get Savas, they're sh*t. Get Continentals, they're more expensive but they're much better.

;D Cheers Spence, I've been using cif (and a host of other household products) to try and get mine clean but they wouldn’t remove some black greasy marks that had appeared on the rear wheel. But...... well done the old WD. All marks are now removed and I'm back in love with whitewalls.
One question, my ones have discoloured slightly (a bit yellowish) where the whitewall joins black tread area. They have only done a few hundred miles - is this normal or should I keep scrubbing with cif and WD? (they're Continentals)
I'm getting a bit excited now as my scoot is very close to being back on the road - few more cosmetics touches, petrol tank in, exhaust back on, then try to start it. Sounds easy!!!
