Help I need assistance!!! I have been doing a few essential jobs on my 150 sprint over the winter. one being to recondition a spare engine as the original needs a new crank and another to rewire the scoot as the old wiring was all in red and lengths no longer than 2ft (lots of joints) The new loom went in fairly easily and all the lights and switches have been connected up. However, I am now trying to wire up the junction box and stator but have hit a snag in that the stator plate that came with the recon engine only has only four wires (red, black, yellow, orange and black stripe) in addition the new junction box I have only has four terminals but..... the old stator had five wires (white, black, red, yellow, and a second red) old junction box four terminal and all wiring diagrams I have on the Sprint show five wires and five terminals in the junction box! I can’t follow the old wiring because as I’ve said it was all in red 2ft lengths with half the stuff on the scoot not working (ie no cut out switch, brake light only when main beam was on, etc) Anyone have any ideas on what is correct. It’s a 6-volt system without battery Cheers

Hi Your problem can be sorted fairly easily, I think you will find on the original stator plate the 2 red wires came from the same coil. On your new wiring loom how many wires come to the junction box from the loom. If you can tell me what year the original loom was and the year oof the new loom and engine i will send you a diagram of how to wire it.
Cheers Dave

Hi Dave, thanks for your help. On the original stator one red comes from the condenser (which also has a yellow wire going to the points) the other red one from a coil (the white wire also comes from this coil) . I have just bought the loom as a new item from a reputable shop, allegedly for a Sprint. Which I have no reason to disbelieve as all other connections seem correct. It has five wires to the junction box, yellow, blue, red, green and black. The "new" engine according to the engine number is a Sprint engine probably 1966. I have manged to get a wiring diagram from scooterhelp which shows similar arrangement to my original stator witht he addition of a five connector junction box (which I can't seem to get from anywhere). I could always use my old stator in the new engine but I would like to get to the position of having a "complete" spare. The old stator is stamped "Vespa" and the new one "Piaggio" .
Any advice appreciated cheers Sean.

Hi sean
As i suspected the double red connection on your old stator is the same wire thats just be joined at the junction box instaed of behind the stator.Wire the junction box as colour to colour and you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks Dave much appreciated, it's the first time I have worked on scooter engines and although they look fairly simple theyr'e quite technical in there own little way. I'll let you know how I get on., although it may be a little while as I still have a few jobs to do such as cable's, fuel tank etc. Trouble is that I have arthritic fingers which make everything very slow and only allow me to work an hour at a time. Lucky enough I have retired early and time is one thing I have plenty of. Thanks again. Sean
