Last week a kind old lady decided to ride into the back of my px , whilst i was stopped at a zebra crossing . insurance are now wanting to write the scoot off , but i know i won't be able to replace it for the value of the insurance ! BLD are the one's handling it , they are saying it is Cat B write-off , which i am disputing !!! Can i get the bike back , or will it already have been made uninsurable ? cheers any advice appreciated ...... will post pic of damage " friend said it should be able to be fixed on a jig no problems "

Category B vehicles are those which the insurance company says are unsafe to repair. Threaten to get an external engineer involved, that may give them cause to take a second look. Underinsuring is a nightmare though, it's never worth the risk

Insurance company wrote my PX off years ago. I got half their market value of it which was 800 quid.
Got it repaired (frame sorted on jig, new mudguard and spray where required) for 400 quid. Groovy gravy. Still wasn't worth all the hassle mind.

Yeah Devo and these days some insurers have deals going with bike repairers/breakers so they will not under any circustances give the motorbike or scooter back to the original owner if written off. Right old con!!!!

Kru, that's illegal. It remains your property until it's paid for.

Well it was a bent bike in terms of I'd fallen off it. They had transported it to Norwich for the insurance assessment and they said I could have it back if :- a) I went and collected it (and I was living in Kent then), and b) they wouldn't then pay me out at all for its value. I took the money as less hassle, but I had taken off all the parts I could get away with like tail fairings that were undamaged and sold them on eBay. Got back more money overall but still think it's a set-up!!!
