I'd probably check the carb over first, could be a bit of crap in there preventing the float needle from cutting the fuel when the bowl is full, so it just floods..
Happy to post how to remove the carb if you've not tackled it before, it's a pretty quick job to remove and check..

Oops! Shouldn't lose much fuel if the tap is off, just what's in the pipe.. Maybe a new needle, but chance is there is just some crap in there which may be preventing it from seating, you've probably got a far way already then but from memory.. - carb top off, 2 philips screws - remove throttle stop screw - remove two other screws in top of filter, filter off - clip off petrol pipe and remove pipe or just unscrew the top of the housing and leave pipe attached - pop off choke & throttle cables - 2 allen headed bolts hold the carb down, need a big allen key once removed carb will lift out - few screws hold the body together - give it all a good clean out, remove jets & clean out, check the float moves smoothly, can remove the pin to take out the float & needle if you wish - i tend to blow it through with WD40 or similar, though proper carb cleaner would be better Slap it all back together and start her up!
