Hi, I have what should be a 1965 Sprint however it was "re-framed" after an accident (by the previous owner). Going by Scooter Helps frame numbers this is a 1972 Super frame. I'm not an expert but everything else appears to be from a Sprint. The V5 has Sprint as the model but not a recognizable frame number. What I would like to know is their any detail differences between a Sprint frame and Super. Also the differences between years i.e. I understand that the badges changed shape and number of cross members vary between years. I have no wish to "clone" my current frame but would like to get hold of a genuine Sprint frame when/if one becomes available. However should I be lucky enough for one to surface I do not want to be ripped off by not knowing what to look for (frame numbers are so easy to re-stamp). Strange but you don’t mind having different engines fitted but always want the right frame! Any help appreciated - dunworking.

I don't know if it'll be any help to you, but Beedspeed have a frame identification facility on their website: www.beedspeed.com

Thanks for that Spence. I've had a look and its not quite what I need as it identifies by numbers and year. I bought a book by Eric brokensomething to see if it could assist, okay to read but useless detail for identification. I could just check out various frames and pick peoples brains at the rallies until I know what I'm looking at. Cheers.

There is a good book called just 'Vespa' IIRC, big hardback square format, orangey cover, you'll see it in Waterstones, Borders etc, it has every model in it, by year, with frame numbers and with pics, I often pop down to Waterstones at lunch time for a spot of research, they even provide nice comfy chairs That should tell you what you need to know.

Hey Bryno, we must have a cheapskate Waterstones down here. Not only was there no comfy chairs but no bloody book either! Although they did have one on the "Alhallows Railway Branch Line of 1947" in the transport section - right interesting read that one! On a more serious note I have found a orangy hardback on amazon With VESPA in large darker orange letters running across the top written by Giorgio Sarti retails at £40 new they have a second hand one for £19 does that seem like the one (ps what is IIRC). If not i'll have to try and get to Bluewater or Lakeside for a larger Waterstones. Cheers Sean.

Thanks mrsm. The veteran vespa club link has helped, don't know how I missed that on their website. Now if I can get hold of the book bryno has recommended as well that'll will see me ready to hunt down a correct frame. Daft really as apart from the numbers they are almost identical.

Tee hee, least you learnt something useful about the railways, you never know what can come up in a pub quiz ;D That does sound like the book, there are 2 BIG uns which came out in the last year or so, but I'm pretty sure the one you need is the hardback and I do remember it being £40, which is why I kept my hand out of my wallet . If you want, PM me the frame number and I'll have a look this week, my office is on the same street as Waterstones..

Thanks for the offer but I have bought the second hand advertised on Amazon - It'll give me something to read these dark winter nights!. I know that my frame is def. a 1972 Super just want to make sure that if I'm lucky enough to stumble on a "Sprint" frame it is exactly that.

Nice one, if they are under £20 secondhand, think I'll go order one myself!
