welcome helenbot, your best bet is to get down to your local scooter club and have a look round to see what sort of scoot your after(geared or auto), where are you?

great. i've found a couple and e-mailed them. thanks for the tip.
i want a scooter, partly to be able to use it as a run around in town (i have to make lots of short journeys for my work) and partly just cuz i love them. but also, i'd like to be able to make longer trips, say, a 100 miles or so to leicester/liverpool and maybe further afield. are 125cc scooters suitable for longer journeys like that?

125's are fine for those sort of miles many of our club ride 125's and travel as far as scotland from liverpool, it's more about can your bum take it (that reads quite rude ;D), regular stops for fuel and a leg stretch work well

ha ha! thanks.
yet another question (I'm going to get annoying soon aren't i?!) - approx how much would i expect to pay in insurance? it'd be my first scooter, i'll have just done my CBT when I get it (i've never owned a vehicle) and am 32 years old.

you ask as many questions as you like, but cant really help on that one, i've got a multi bike policy, i've been riding a while and i'm a good 10 years and a bit older than yourself, so that one's getting thrown over to the forum, i think there might of been a topic about insurance in the last few months so have a search around greg
