Hi guys, looking for some hidden tips for you experienced guys to share, scoot packed up on me last night, after the usual cursing and stamping of feet i found it out to be the woodruff key (flywheel side) was chewed up. while the crank is still fitted i can see that the damage the woodruff key has done to the crank is non repairable. the slot the woodruff key sits in has been widened beyond belief so a new crank it is. My question is to all you engine legends is this........is there an easy way of stripping the engine to fit a new crank? any major short cuts? please rescue my sanity.

Bad news that! fairly straightforward to do, but as you need to split the engine casings an engine out job, may as well replace the bearings whilst you are at it, new gaskets etc.

If your not going to replace the bearings, you don't need to take the engine out to replace the crank. BUt there is still a lot of work to do. you still have to split the case, and remove the clutch / cylinder etc... but the main casing can still stay on the scooter. But it is wise to change the bearings / seals if you've stripped it down that far. Might as well go the whole hog and change the cruciform as well, and check that the cush plate is still o.k ( i.e the rivets )
