Anyone had any good/bad experiences from buying restored scoots from Vietnam - just been browsing some different websites, and on ebay too - some lovely looking vespas but are they good quality?

Always lots of thoughts on this over on LCGB forum, loads of Lammies coming over from Vietnam, many on Ebay. I did take a look myself, you can get either a Lam or a Vespa shipped and delivered to your door for £1,300, but reading the threads I got a bit 'concerned' over the quality of the restorations, end of the day who knows what's lurking under the shiny paint ... Not saying the quality is any better on Euro restorations, but at least you get a chance to check it out before parting with your hard earned...

And seeing the state of a container load of washing machines that got caught in a bad storm on the sea journey from the Far East doesn't instil me with a huge amount of confidence...

Good point. Hm. Some of those ebay vespas seem pretty pricey too.

Yeh, I thought that, the companies i looked at seem to charge pretty well the same for a Vespa as a Lambretta, when there is still a sizable diff in values in the UK.. I'm no expert but the Indian restos seem to be mainly 3 speed and run on 8" rims and I guess the frame numbers will be diff from a Euro build so they will always be 'worth' less than a Euro as is the case with SIL built lambrettas vs the Innocenti ones..

another thing-in a recent scootering publication it stated that the dvla were goin 2 start registering indian etc lambrettas as anything other than a lambretta!! ie veejay whatever,so will it become the case that lambrettas from anywhere other than italy will now start to decrease in value???-far 2 overpriced anyhow if you ask me-look in scoot trder or on ebay and folks are askin silly prices for lambreetas these days.-Hope that gets you all talkin!!!!

Pop over to scooterbbs.com and do a search on 'vietnam scoot' in the International Scooterist BBS. General consensus there seems to be "not with a bargepole" - some of the stories there will make your hair curl.
