Hi, about to attempt my first bit of Vespa maintenance and would be grateful for a bit of help.. I have a 2001 PX125 (disk) which has recently sprung a leak from the oil tank indicator. It looks like I have to remove the tanks from under the seat but when I remove the bolts and try to lift it all out, the petrol tap gets in the way. Any hints? Also, do I need to disconnect the petrol / oil tank before I remove them? Thanks, Andrew

Hmm, sounds messy! can help a little... no need to remove the fuel tap to get the tank out, just remove the rubber grommet from the frame where the tap comes through and do the same for the grommet around the oil sight glass. Remove the tank bolts and you can lift both tanks out. Oh, and don't forget to disconnect the oil pipe from the carb housing and the petrol pipe from the carb and push them through a little. IIRC you need some sort of special (or home made) tool to seperate the oil tank from the fuel tank as the bolt holding them together is inside the fuel tank so a *ugger to reach, you may be able to fix the oil tank without seperating them though.. good luck

I'd echo everything that Bryn said there. Once you've got the rubber grommets from round the fuel tap and oil bubble they're not too difficult to get out, you just need to do a bit of juggling. I seem to remember having to take the helmet hook off for some reason too, but I might be getting confused with another job there. One tip I'd give you is to have a small bolt handy, the same diameter as the fuel/oil pipes that you can shove in the end when you disconnect them from the carb. ALSO be careful when feeding the pipe into the body a little to give yourself some slack, because the rubber grommet can pop through and it's right fiddly to get back out.
