Hey Folks
I'm currently without a scooter but about to start the process of looking. On the recommendation of a friend and because they look pretty cool, A Vespa seems to be the way forward.
It'll be mostly for my partner to commute on (she's only a few miles from work so a 2nd car really isn't needed) and occassionally for me when I can't be bothered to drive my car or ride my Honda Bike. being a bit of a nut myself, how would a Vespa tackle an A- road commute over 35 miles?
So, my mate recommended the GT model ? Just thought I'd get a little input from you guys as to what would work best. I have a full bike license but my partner will need one, won't she?

I'm in NI so we don't has a CBT etc. I've looked into it and she can ride a 125 so long as she displays L plates. I'm giving her a go on a Piaggio 50cc Zip that a friend owns to see if she likes the whole scooter idea.

It really depends on your respective sizes and riding abilities, if you intend to ride the 35 mile A road commute often, then something like the GT125 would happily munch up those miles, (should do 55/60 mph) but they are quite large for the petite lady (I sound like Al Murray). If that's the case, then, like was said before, there's the smaller et4 125. If you want a traditional geared scooter, then the PX125 is the one to go for. Personally I would advise her to get as large an engine capacity as possible and avoid the 50cc mopeds. In my book they're dangerous, the tendency being to sit in the gutter to allow the traffic to pass, which increases the chances of both a puncture and not being seen by those ever so vigilant motorists waiting at junctions ready to pull out into your path. And if you're used to big bikes, it will drive you mad.
Best of luck and let us know how you get on.

I haven't had my license long but I ride a biggish bike so thats no problem. Don't worry, I wouldn't be buying a 50 as I would be using it on occassion myself for longer trips or so that she can ride out with me (and keep up) if I'm on my bike.
