Have to admit I don't have a clue about this one, but as a T5 owner i've never had good cause to consider it before!
Let us take heart in the fact that most BMW owners don't actually know what BMW stands for either...

Nobody answered you because it doesn't stand for anything. When the 'New Line' series (later to become known as th PX series) was originally produced in 1977 it came in two models, the P200E and the P125X.
I should think the P comes from Piaggio. The E stands for Electronic Ignition. The X was probably just put on to make it sound snappier.

Nope!
When they where drawing it at they called it "Progetto X" (project X) and when it came out for the first time to the public they decided to keep the name as PX as it does sound snappy! In the case of PE the "E" stands for "Electronic" as suggested by Spence.
