I currently live in Amsterdam and can buy two Vespa LX 50 2 Stroke models - one is limited to 25 kph and the other to 45 kph.
I want to get the 25 kph one because i can just ride around (albeit slowly) on the cycle lanes.
When I leave the Netherlands I'll want to take it with me but will probably want it to go a little faster than 25 kph.
Does anyone know if it is possible to change it ? I am assuming that they are the same apart from the restrictor and that this can be easily changed ...
Does anyone know ?
Many thanks, Charles.

Restrictors are usually in the outlet for the exhaust or the inlet side of things and i don't think you will have any probs removing them. Why not speak to yuor local dealer though who will b a lot more specific than me

i just semi de restricted mine, i took out a little washer on the half shaft just before the variator. its made a massive difference, it was doing 40mph, or so the clock said. Where as before it was struggling to get to 25mph. I think the exhaust needs sorting now, there is a little pipe coming off it that is blank at the end which i've read is supposed to be a restriction device, needs chopping off and welding. Would be good to cut it off neatly, fill the hole and weld the pipe back on again so it looks standard. I'm hoping that the main the pipe doesnt have a short piece of smaller bore pipe inside it somewhere to cause further restriction, only way to find out is to chop it in half and weld it back up - pain in the bum. I'm happy with the speed now, i can keep up with the town traffic, thats all i wanted

Hi, No you're right the only restrictors are the small washer by the variator and that little pipe which sticks out from the exhaust. there's nothing else in the exhaust to take out. I also semi derestricted mine by taking the washer out. It shows about 40-45 on the clock now so I'd imagine in reality that's around 40. I plan on getting a different exhaust from www.sip-scootershop.com so that I don't have to cut the pipe off & re weld. That way when I come to sell it I can easily restrict it to give someone the option of having it restricted or not. Hopefully with the new exhaust I should acheive a genuine 45-50mph which is fast enough for my daily commute. Cheers. Ben.

Awesome, which exhausr are you getting? I'm going to have to get one. Will you have to change the variator weights too?

If you have a look at Sip-scootershop. You can pick UK from the country option which will put the site into english, convert the price to £ & put in the correct postage. Then go on the products tab & it'll give a series of drop down menus. Pick scooter 50-90cc / vespa / LX 50 2T then pick "all" on the next & another dropdown box will appear where you can choose exhausts. They've got 3 pages of compatible exhausts ranging from £44 to £200.
Although part of my commute is on dual carriageways & I'm now beginning to have had enough of cars that think they have more right to be on the road and it's ok to sit on my back wheel. So I'm tempted to redo my CBT & get the LX125 or the GT125.

oops, sorry. Forgot to add that every exhaust you click on they'll tell you whether you need to rejet, change rollers etc. or if you can keep the same engine set up. They also give some tips on their recommended set up too.

I also found a little brass plate on the air intake which had a few 1/4" holes in it, looks like it would restrict air flow to the carb......
