lookin to get back into scootering after 9 years away and found a '62 vespa standard - been advised to steer clear because it was reconditioned in india but wouldn't mind a few other opinions on indian reconditioning...

I'm sure there are just as many cowboy restorers here as there are indians (sorry, couldn't resist that ;D)
Was looking on a web site yesterday at 'mint' looking restored Vespas shipped to your door from India for £1,300, was actually looking for a Lambretta which they do for same price, in Lambretta circles there seem to be few people with a good word to say about Indian quality both the scooters themselves and the resto work..
Presume there are some differences in the quality of the Vespa if it was actually made in India?

save yourself time, trouble and most importantly lots of money and buy it in england. it might say "restored" but to whos standard is that ? mine? yours? or mr singh who wants a few rupeees to feed his family? if from a uk dealer then possiby, but ask them about waranty etc other than that mate STAY CLEAR and that goes for 99% of the vietnamese rubish going around.
