Black plates will be illegal on a T5.

technically it's illegal to have a front plate on a vehicle that's too new (not sure ages of T5's) but you may find you get away with it in character with the vehicle since it's not legally required.
you must keep the yellow plate on the rear however.
I'm hoping to get a Royal Enfield which basically looks like it's rolled out of the 1950's so I plan on getting a black and silver plate made which will live tucked behind the yellow one so I can display it at shows on a retro plate while legally riding to and from the event with the correct yellow plate.
what I'm trying to say is, off the road and at shows you can do what you like, on the road it's best to keep it legal.

Think the number plate issue is regarding what we called "pedestrian Slicers", ie. the metal top mounted 'blade' ones. Stick-on ones can't affect a pedestrian one any more than being hit by the mudguard it's attached to!!! See below. On a Royal Enfield Army as it happens.
