If you do anything to the engine you'll invalidate your warranty. And probably b*ll*cks the engine.
And it's a scooter, not a moped.

sorry for calling it a moped! wont happen again So you reckon its common to b*ll*cks the engine just from derestricting it? are all the 50cc's restricted for all markets or just the UK? thanks mate

What's the point of messing with a perfectly good engine? Smallframe will disagree with me obviously, but as soon as you start altering a standard lump is when it starts getting unreliable.
I don't know if the restriction is just a UK thing, but I've been asked about getting it removed before by someone who had an ET50. At the end of the day a 50cc scooter's not going to go faster than 40mph even without a restrictor on the engine.
My advice is do a CBT and get a 125.

well, uk restriction is 30mph. id be happy with 40mph or a little bit more out of a 50cc. As far as I know, the uk is the only country that has the 50cc (moped restriction law), so I kind of figured that the manufactures would not make a different engine for the uk market (that could only do 30mph) but just use the same 50cc engine and restrict it. if i want to go fast i will jump on my fireblade. I bought this bike to use for nipping up the shops and as a pit bike, it was a bargain and I've always wanted a vespa.....

It is a lovely little thing the LX I agree.
I just don't see the point of messing with a brand new engine, which will not only invalidate your warranty but also render your insurance void if you have an accident and it gets inspected, just for the sake of a few mph.

i see where your coming from but i am 15 stone! and there are a few hills where i live. I was only enquiring if it was somthing simple like mucking about with the exhaust. I wouldnt go to the lenghts of changing the block and piston etc etc - wouldnt be worth it. I saw the scooter, fell in love with it and got a good price. papers are all signed and hopefully it'll be with me in a couple of weeks....

Hi Guys, I have just bought a LX50, waiting for it to be delivered. Very excited! how easy are they to derestrict? Its been a long time since I've had a moped..... Many thanks If it's the 2-stroke engine then it's quite easy to de-restrict. There will be a small resonator tube on the exhaust near to the outlet manifold. Remove this & weld up the hole. There is also a small black plastic restricting washer on the front pulley underneath the variator casing. Removing this will allow the pulleys to use their full potential. I did this on my ET2 & got a top speed of approx 45mph (down hill with the wind behind me) and I'm a big fella too. As for invalidating your warranty, I would go to the dealer who you bought it from & ask them to de-restrict it, cost you around £30-ish. They should have no problem doing it for you if you're over 16 & got a full bike/car licence. At least then if you have any warranty work done the dealer will know about the de-restriction. Hope this helps.
