Still suffering an intermittent stutter which feels like fuel starvation (not ignition problem) on my T5.. comes in when you are pretty well maxed out in 4th although I've had it in 3rd as well.. Just feels like it is not getting enough feel, so the engine dies momentarily, then recovers, if I back off the throttle a bit, it runs fine. Problem seems to come and go, other day I saw a heady 73 on the clock ;D today it won't go past 60 without stuttering. Had the carb off, all cleaned out, didn't really find anything, fuel filter fine, exhaust all clean, de-coked the head etc are there any other fuel related components to check over? is there a filter in the tank, could it be crap in the tank blocking the outlet?

I know you say its not ignition, but have you tried a spare cdi unit on it. ?

remove fuel banjo off carb and check rate of flow, just another thought !

just back in from stripping the carb again, went round the block, got up to 70 no problem, 100 yds later it wont pull past 60 again.. grrr . I don't know it's not ignition for sure smallframe, guess i was presuming more likely fuel as it just feels exactly same as when you get a blocked jet, no power for a second or so, then power again, off and on.. back off the throttle and it runs smooth up to 60, never pops or misfires when it stutters... I don't have any spare ignition bits to try unfortunately.. are CDI's failing a common problem? Now cleaned out the tank & fuel tap, all clean, checked flow rate, 1ltr in 2min 40 secs, and slightly slower with the filler cap on.. any ideas on what it should flow at?

Blocked breather in the tank? does it have a inline fuel filter? that could also be blocked and not letting enough fuel throuh on full throttle. daz

Don't think the breather is an issue as it only took a few seconds less to flow a ltr of fuel with the cap off, no in-line filter on the T5.. it ran fine since the weekend stripdown till this eve when it started stuttering again, I'm down to 1/2 tank so, filled up again now see if the problem only occurs when it's got below 1/2 tank..

All looked good with the carb, didn't feel any play in the slide, I guess If the problem continues I'll need to start buying some parts to swap over like a carb and a CDI unit

have you tried a new ht lead , plug and plug cap? try the easiest/ cheapest route first. used to get a great spark on my old t5 when stationary, but then once moving the spark broke down. have you checked eath points? namely the wire that comes off from the coil and goes onto a bolt? that needs to be earthed properly, i use them star/pointy washers either side of the terminal and when tightening bite into the terminal slightly.

I've not tried changing any bits as yet, I'll have a look at the earthpoint etc.. just baffled me as to why it always starts first kick hot or cold, runs up to 70mph no problem most days, then others it runs perfect if you stay below 60, stutters above.. you'd think if there was a faulty component it would show up most of the time

belive it or not the weather can have a great effect on how a machine runs, loads of cold damp air in my old rs turbo and ;D hot humid weather mate used to have a original gp200 electronic and if it was raining never even bothered getting it out to go to work on cause it would break down even in drizzle. where do you live fella, i'd be more than happy to let you try some of my parts to try and solve your problem. daz

Good of you to offer dazh, I'm down in Milton Keynes thou Since I filled up again it's been fine, if it starts stuttering again when it gets to half a tank, I'll know its related to that, just wondering if somehow it is taking air through the system when the filter inside the tank is no longer totally submerged in fuel, that make any sense at all? I've been offered a damaged T5 engine today if I can go pick it up, not sure it has any ancillaries on it as it came out of a mates when the garage fitted a new engine and it's still sitting in their workshop, hopefully it will still have the carb, CDI etc attached (unless they striped it down) and I can use it for parts.. Oh and then build up a spare slightly 'hotter' motor ;D
