Hi - seriously thinking of getting my first scooter. Just got a new job, which will involve a 10 mile commute. I've got a full bike license and was wondering what are the most economical models of Vespas? This is the first time I’ve been in a position to consider a scooter and economy will be a major factor in justifying the cost of the purchase.
I would really appreciate any advice. I'm a little confused with all the models out there!
So far, I’ve been recommended a PX200 for running costs. Is that the general consensus?

Hello Pompeyboy, welcome.
Some of my running costs for my PX200.
Insurance: around £100. Tax: 30 odd quid. Tyres: £25. Fuel consumption: 70/80 mpg. 2 stroke oil: <£10 good for about 600 miles Annual service <£50 (Though you could do this yourself)
It depends what you want, if you want a traditional geared scooter then the PX200 is a reliable friend, and economical to run and maintain. You may find it a bit wanting if you use motorways though, it's just about quick enough. There are quicker autos out there, but I don't have experience of running costs of those.

Vespa GTS is similar to other scoots to insure, tax is £33. Costs £6 to fill petrol tank, and that will last you from now til New Year !

The only other thing you have to consider with the GTS is the servicing as its recommended that its done every 2000 mile, which if you use it daily will fly by.
I use mine everyday for work covering around 34 miles round trip, all motorway miles and you can’t beat it, spend around £10 a week as opposed to £50 in the car .

If you're not that bothered about an extra 5-10mph or so, a PX125 is more economical than a PX200.
They're half as much to tax, they cost the same to fill up as a 200, and you can get 100mpg (or per tank) out of them. I used to do a 21 mile commute on one.

Hi - thanks for the replies. I mentioned my bike licence as I wasn't sure if the larger engines are more refined, or economical. I don't need speed - comfort and economy are the most important factors.
Having read more into the Vespas, I get the impression that 2 strokes have a greater cult/traditional following? My commute will be 10 miles each way and as I live in Scotland, there are several hills to cover.
Does anybody have any experience of the GT 125s, or 200s? I wondered if they may be cheaper option than the GTSs?
